Dr. Joe L. Boyer

BOYER, DR. JOE L., passed away July 29, 2009 at the
University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham. He was 69. Joe was born in Winter Park, and was the sixth child of the late Reverend and Mrs. C. L. Boyer. He was a graduate of Hungerford High School and holds the Bachelor of Arts degree from Tennessee State University, Nashville. He received the Master of Science degree from the University of IL, Champaign and was a Ford Foundation Scholar where he was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy degree from The Ohio State University. Dr. Boyer celebrated an illustrious career as professor at Stillman College, Tuscaloosa, AL, President of Mississippi Valley State University, Itta Bena, Professor, Auburn University, Montgomery and Assistant Dean, AL A&M University at Huntsville. He was Director of two renowned male choruses at Dexter
Memorial Baptist Church in Montgomery and First Baptist Church of Huntsville. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Dr. Patricia Aaron Boyer, Huntsville; one son, Attorney Kevin D. Boyer, Birmingham; two daughters, Dr. Lori P. Boyer, Lubbock, TX, and Kelli D. Boyer, Alexandria, VA.; Two brothers, Mr. Clem L. Boyer (Juanita) Maitland, and Dr. James B. Boyer (Edna),
Manhattan, KS; and two sisters, Dr. Minnie B. Woodruff, Orlando, and Dr. Edythe Boyer Jones, Orangeburg, SC are his surviving siblings. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and precious friends. Funeral services will be held at Dexter Avenue
Memorial Baptist Church, Montgomery on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 12:00 noon. E. G. Cummings Funeral Home is in charge.
