As a 20-year veteran staff member at UCF, I have always considered the UCF community as part of my extended family. I did not know know Officer Jenkins personally but I feel as if I've lost one of my own. To Officer Jenkins family, friends and fellow officers: you all are in my thoughts and prayers and may God bring you the comfort you need during this difficult time.

I have proudly worked with law enforcement officers (LEOs) for many years, and this is something that I am always afraid of happening to one of "my students". I did not have the privilege of knowing Mario personally, but have great respect for what he did, and expect that he will be looking over LEOs from above. I know many of the officers from the UCFPD, and know that they miss you terribly. I want to THANK YOU for all you have done, and for watching out for your fellow officers. LEOs don't get thanked enough for all that they do. We need to remember to do that more often. Mario, you left us too soon. I would have loved to have met you and been able to thank you for all you have done.

While working at the BP Amoco on Alafaya and Corporate Blvd I had the opportunity to get to know such a great person in Mario Jenkins, his bright and easy going personality made him one of my favorite cops to talk with to help my day pass. I will miss the guy and always remember the kind of person he was.
-Peace out Mario

May God's love envelop and protect Mario's family during this time. Please know that the Lord is close to those whose hearts are breaking. During my 20 years working at UCF, I never met a more warm and caring individual. He is, and will be sorely missed.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Val. She is handling this with the dignity and grace of a true officer's wife. Although we did not know Mario all that well, we have known Val for many years. Knowing what a wonderful person Val is - we know that Mario must have been just as great as Val is. We extend our support and prayers to Val for many years to come - and invite her to call on us whenever she needs.
