KAFKA, RICHARD LEE, age 82, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Prestige Centre in Mt. Pleasant. Funeral Services for Richard will take place at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 1 p.m. with Benjamen Evers officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow in the Reflections Reception Center. The family will greet friends on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Homer, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the family, your local NRA, or your local Alcoholics Anonymous chapter. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel. Richard was born December 18, 1941, in South Bend, Indiana, the son of Roman and Marguerite (Young) Kafka. He graduated from Albion High School with the class of 1959 Following graduation, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1961-1965. In the military, Richard worked in crypto maintenance as part of the communications squadron. He worked for Consumers Power for over 30 years, retiring as a substation supervisor. After retirement, Richard worked in real estate and drove the school bus for NEMSCA in Midland, which he loved. He also was a certified CPL instructor. Richard was an active NRA member and A.A. member. His true passion was hunting and target shooting; he was the shooting champ of the state open for the 44-mag revolver. He also enjoyed classic cars, golfing and fishing. Richard was very active with his grandkids; he adored them and loved any time he could spend with them. He loved watching Green Bay Packers, and Duke Blue Devils basketball. Richard is survived by his children, Richard Kafka, II of Springport, Michael Kafka of Three Rivers, Brian (Hollie) Kafka of Midland, James (Sheri) Kafka of Midland; life partner of 21 years, Kathryn Barnes and her children, Michael (Donna) Barnes of Ramona, CA, Theresa (Andrew) Broderick of Oak Park, Ill, Matthew Barnes of Sheboygan Falls, WI, Jessica Barnes (Marcus Vogel) of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Jessica, Allison, Hannah, Ian, Angel, Cierra, Kirsti, Kiara, Savannah, Nethaniel, Alayna, Sophia, Timothy, Annabelle, Carver, and Brayden.
