Robert Spung Obituary

Robert "Bob" Wayne Spung Jr., 92, passed away December 17, 2023, at his home in Seal Beach, California.
Bob was born to Pauline and Robert Spung on November 2, 1931, in Zanesville, Ohio. In 1935, they moved to Ashland, OH where his sister, Carole Sue, was born. The family left Ohio and moved to Visalia, CA in 1939. In 1944, Bob's parents bought a furniture store in Watsonville, CA. This was to become Spung's Home Furnishings on Main Street.
Growing up in Watsonville, Bob was involved in the Boy Scouts, troop 91. He earned his Life Scout and later his Explorer Scout. Bob was also a camp counselor for the YMCA. Bob graduated from Watsonville High School in 1949. That fall, he started college at Hartnell Junior College in Salinas, CA. Some of Bob's friends from his childhood that they continued their communication with until the end are Donald Henrichsen, Art Webb, Weldon "Monty" Montgomery, and Art Brickwedel.
Bob enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean war. After boot camp he went to Jacksonville, FL, for Aviation school, then on to Pensacola, FL for Photography school. His first duty station was San Diego, Coronado Navy Air Station VU7. In 1953 he was transferred to Guam. Bob was honorably discharged from the Navy on January 25th, 1955. Later that year, he graduated from Hartnell Junior College. He met his wife, Shirley Hennigan, who also attended Hartnell JC. He graduated from San Jose State University in 1957 and began his career with Owens Corning Fiberglass Corp. Bob and Shirley were married October 20th, 1957.
Bob and Shirley had two daughters: Sandy and Debbie. After his divorce, Bob and his two daughters moved to Southern California in 1974 where he was transferred with Westglass, an Owens Corning Fiberglass distributor.
In July of 1974, Bob attended his 25th high school class reunion where he reconnected with classmate, Connie Simmons (nee Smith). In December of that year, Bob and Connie were married. Connie had three children: Douglass, Julie, and Susan.
After semi-retiring in 1985, Bob became a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker. In 1991, Bob began working for United Church Directories until his retirement in 1998.
In 1993, Bob and Connie bought an antique store in Los Alamitos, CA. They enjoyed collecting antiques and having a store was the perfect outlet for them to display and sell what they had collected.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Connie of 47 years, and stepson, Douglass.
Bob is survived by his sister Carole Sue De Lany, daughters Sandy Smith, Debbie Spung, stepdaughters Julie Webb (David) and Sue Davidson. Grandchildren Lauren Crawford, Michael Caves (Erynn), Dylan Caves (Heather), Zachary Spung (Amanda), Keegan Caves and Julian Davidson. Great Grandchildren Kevin and Gracie Caves.
Bob will be interred with Military Funeral Honors on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 2:00 pm, at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park, Watsonville, CA.
