Johnny C. "Bam" Spung, 60, of Crooksville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his residence on August 23, 2024, after an extend illness. Born on April 6, 1964, in Zanesville, Ohio, to John M. Spung Jr. and the late Florice "Ann" (Ross) Spung, Bam grew up in a close-knit community that would influence the man he would become. Bam was a devoted husband to his wife of 37 years, Karen (Spurbeck) Spung. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, parties and memories. His legacy continues through his sons, Logan (Tori) Spung and Dylan Spung of Crooksville, and his adored granddaughter, Emerson Spung, who was the apple of his eye. Bam's joy was evident whenever he watched Em excel at sports, and they spent countless hours sharing their playful and ornery spirit. A graduate of Crooksville High School, Bam was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to help others. He spent many years as a heavy equipment operator before retiring from Buckeye Supply. His commitment to the community was evident through his involvement with the Crooksville Eagles #1979. As a proud member, he not only contributed to the organization but also enjoyed playing on their softball team, where he made lifelong bonds and friendships with his comrades. Family was the cornerstone of Bam's life, and he took great pride in coaching his sons' pee wee and little league baseball teams as well as biddy league football. His guidance and encouragement on and off the field helped shape the character of many young athletes in Crooksville. An avid Cincinnati Bengals fan, Bam never missed a game and could be found sitting in front of the tv cheering them on. He also cherished the times he could go deer hunting with his father, John, sharing in the tranquility and bonding that the sport provided. Bam's talents extended into the kitchen, where he was known for his exceptional cooking skills. His French toast was legendary among family and friends, and his love for cooking was just another way he expressed his care for those around him. He is survived by his father, John M. Spung Jr., siblings Ronald Spung, Darla Channel, Robin (Eric) Armstrong, and Karen Bess. Bam also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Pat Spurbeck, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous dear friends. Calling hours will be held Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 4pm – 7pm at Ross-Frash Funeral Home, 207 Burley Street, Crooksville, where a celebration of life will begin at 7pm with Pastor Marc Caton officiating.
