Aurea KEYES Obituary

KEYES, Aurea Georgina (Vazquez)

Aurea Georgina (Vazquez) Keyes, 89, of Boca Raton, FL (formerly of Athens, OH, St. Clair Shores MI) transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, with her daughters sleeping at her side; having just been serenaded by her loving husband of 60 years. Born in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico, in April 1924, she grew up in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn where she attended Brooklyn College and began her career as a fashion stylist. After continuing in the photography business, she and her husband began their own photography studio. As they pursued their creative passions, she went on to enjoy success as a visual artist, painting in oil color, acrylics, water colors and even Chinese brush painting. She loved to sing and dance and was a patron of theater and the arts. She enjoyed volunteer work at the Trisolini Gallery and Dairy Barn Cultural Arts Center, and sat on the board of the Athens Children's Theater in Athens, OH. An avid golfer known as 'Mighty Mite' she thrived on the course, winning numerous championships in her club and interclub leagues, both at the Athens Country Club in Athens, OH and at Boca Teeca Country Club in Boca Raton, FL. She also had the distinction of shooting a hole-in-one at the Athens Country Club. Preceded in death by her parents and siblings, she is survived by her husband, Daniel and her daughters, Hillary and Leslie, and her best friend since childhood, Nancy Rockwell. Beloved Wife, Mother and Friend, she has the unique distinction of holding "beautiful peach blossom luck" in her four pillars. A memorial service will be held at the Boca Raton Funeral Home in Boca Raton, Sunday at 1pm, followed by Interment at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Boca Museum Art School Summer Camp Scholarship Fund in Memory of Aurea Keyes, a cause close to the family's heart.
