Dr Gard was both my family physician & became my friend/like a father figure to me during my 18 years in lake worth. What I remember most is when he told me he was retiring at the end of the year...& before the year was out he told me I didn´t have to find a new dr... he wasn´t retiring cuz he wanted to keep his wife happy... that same conversation happened at least 3-4x during the 90´s. All i know is I was happy he was staying on.
To me, he was a saint

Dr Gard was an uncommon man in a time where people lean toward individualism and the self. He was selfless and reliable on all counts that a physician should be. The entire community knew that with Dr. Gard they always had a place to go when so many other places may have shown them indifference for whatever financial circumstances may have ailed them. I once wrote Dr Gard a thank you card, he and his entire staff always remembered that simple gesture -even though I felt it was so small compared to all that he ever did for me.Dr. Gard was witty and if you were afraid of needles he'd telll you an awesome joke -this way you'd forget about the little pinch.I visited Dr Gard for over ten years from the time I was a poor uninsured college student to times when periods of unemployment left me without medical coverage. I cannot and will never forgive the kindness this beautiful individual showed me and everyone who ever crossed his path. It didn't matter who or what you were -you were welcome and reminded that god was there for you.I send all of your family and you my love.

I had no idea he passed away. He is sitting with Jesus as we all know his goodness. He took care of our family through measles, mumps, Hong Kong flu Scarlett fever. He knew more than most of the Doctors today! God Bless Him. You will be sorely missed by everyone!

Dr Gard was a kind and gentle man...a doctor committed to helping the less fortunate have access to desperately needed healthcare. As a patient of his, I can personally attest to the fact that Dr Gard cared for my wellbeing when no one else would...That meant the world to me at the time, and I'll never forget it. Rest peacfully, doctor, and know that you helped.

I told Dr. Gard once that of all the man I ever met my entire life he was in the top three. Dr. Gard to me was one of the most amazing people ever met he loved his art of being one of the best doctors that ever lived. My entire family had been to Dr. Gard at one time or another I remember going there and not having enough money to pay when I was younger and first got out of the Marine Corps and he told me just to mail them a check whenever I got time I made sure I took that check over there the next day he could've charged 10 times more but he loved being a doctor and he loves people and more than that he loved his heavenly father God bless you Dr. Gard

I cannot believe I'm seeing this. He was such a wonderful doctor not only to myself, but for my entire family. Never misleading, never in any rush, he would always take his time answering every question you had and giving you the best medical care regardless of having any insurance or issues with money. He was an incredibly kind, wonderful man of God. He will be incredibly missed.

Dear mr. Guard you will truly be missed you have been one of the greatest doctors I have ever had the honor to know. You were a true doctor out to help people I'm in tears remembering how many times you have helped me and my children they are all grown now and very healthy. You have been a big part of my life. you have not only helped me and my family but you have helped many many others in their times of need. Dr. Hard was the kindest doctor I have ever met. No matter how busy he was, he always had time for one more person. If someone didn't have enough money to pay he would accept $5 a month from them. No one was ever denied care.
When I moved from Florida, I never found another doctor like him.
I am so sorry to learn of his passing and want his family to know he is someone I will always hold close in my heart not only for being a great doctor, but a good friend.

He always new exactly what I did for work and was sharp as a tack. He was always interested in how fast South Florida was growing. He told me a few years back that his Class Reunion was coming up and when I asked if he was going he said he may,but there were only a couple of them still alive. He said this happens when you get to be my age. Such a sweet kind God Loving person. Will be surely missed. Rest in peace in the arms of Jesus...

To Mrs. Gard and Family,I am very sorry for your loss. Dr. Gard was my physician ( and physician to my sister, Glenda Hickox).He was so precious and personable. He always asked about our parents and gave us excellent care. We will miss him greatly, but, through faith, do believe that he lives now- just in a more beautiful place. Full of love, no illness and a place has been waiting for Dr. Gard, as it is for all of us who believe.I want to thank you, his family, for sharing him with us and others. First and foremost I just wanted to express my deepest sympathy to Mrs.Gard and all of Dr Gards Family.Ive been a patient since 1978,and Met him through Suzie Butler.He was one of the kindest loving patient Drs I've ever known and very educated about ANY medical issue I've and my daughter while growing up.I had written down his home address once again on my last visit to stop by and visit him,I had found out he officially retired after all these years.However I was unable to go and feel incredibly sad I wasn't able to see him .(Dr Gard not only did I respect highly your opinion in every area of our conversations I also considered you my Mentor in my every day life.) To the entire Gard family, let us express our deepest sympathies to each and everyone of you. Dr. Gard was our family physician for oh so many years. GOD blessed him with such a kind and gentle soul. Phyllis, know that he was loved from around the world.
His bedside manner was quite unique! Whether it was the gentling and calming our girls before they would get their school shots, or going above and beyond to make sure that we were okay and felt comfortable about our injuries.
GOD anointed this precious man with such a love for his patients. That it was every evident with that beautiful smile that greeted you when he called your name. To the son that is carrying on his great legacy...YOU my dear please greet your patients with that smile too!
