Family-Placed Obituary

EDGAR POWELL, SR Age 81, of West Palm Beach, passed away on September 20, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in New York moving to this area as a young child. Mr. Powell attended local schools and was a graduate of Palm Beach High School. He joined the navy while still a senior in high school and his dad received his diploma at graduation. He served during WWII aboard the USS Florence Nightingale and USS Cabell. Upon his return he was employed with Krumpe Inc. for many years. He was a member of Local Union 630 Plumbers and PipeFitters Union, and a member since 1985 of Palm Springs Baptist Church where he served as an usher. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lillian; four children, Ed Powell Jr. of GA, Debbie Wilkerson, Carl Powell, and Marsha (Mike) Nixon, all of WPB; six grandchildren; Christine Smith (Rob), Jennifer Pollak (Roger), Julie Wilkerson, TJ Wilkerson, David Nixon, and Mandy Evans (Chris); three great grandchildren: Austin, Alexis, and Logan; one brother, Bruce Powell (Nadine) of Oregon; two sisters: Sandy (John) Willis of Arizona, and Rayma Noel of Hobe Sound. He was preceded in his death by his brother Lionel Powell. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 23 at Dorsey-E Earl Smith Memory Gardens Funeral Home for 6-7:30 PM. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, September 24 at Palm Springs Baptist Church where his family will receive friends from 1-2 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Lake Worth Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, WPB, FL 33407 or Palm Springs Baptist Church, 3300 10th Ave North, Palm Springs. Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with the Powell family. Sure has been a long time since the "Dillman Road" days but Mr. Powell will always be in our memory as one of the most gentle and kind men I have known. May God bless you all and fill you with fond memories of his wonderful life.

I've known Mr. Powell for may years, and he was truly a Gentleman and good person. His faith and values and kindness to his fellowman are an example for us all. He will be missed but I'm sure he's in a better place.
