Jerome OKIN Obituary
92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, at the Hospice of Palm Beach County, surrounded by his family. He was born in Newark, NJ and was a graduate of Weequahic High School and NYU. After WWII, where he served in the Army Air Corp, flying combat missions in the Pacific, he began working as a salesman for Saffer-Simon, eventually becoming a partner in the firm. After retiring from Saffer-Simon he, and his wife Doris, became the owners of Colours, Inc. in Millburn, NJ. for 13 years. Upon leaving New Jersey for Florida, he worked as a substitute teacher for the Palm Beach County school system. Jerome was married to Doris Saffer for 68 wonderful years. He is survived by his beloved Doris, his sister Phyllis Jacobwitz, his daughter Ellen Powers and her husband Jerry and his son Edward Okin; his grandsons Adam Powers and Matthew Powers and his wife Christina. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are being made at the Palm Beach National Chapel in Lake Worth. The family requests that all donations go to the Hospice of Palm Beach County.

i went to WHS and now live in West Palm Beach....i did not know Jerry but remember the store Colours in Millburn..i loved the store and bought many many things there...Sorry for familys loss Loretta Schorr .....

My sincere condolences to the family. Jerry was such a nice man! I had the privilege of sharing Jerry's memories & stories in conjunction with family genealogical research I've been doing. He led a full and interesting life. He will be sorely missed. My deepest sympathies.

I have the most fond memories of "The Candy Man" (I recently told him he needed to have one of those big almond Hershey bars we used to share). Uncle Jerry was characteristic of the "Okins", sweet, caring, gentle souls. We were blessed to have him for so long. I so enjoyed our long talks, most recently about our geneology where he was able to share so many interesting and informative stories about family members (many of them brought to life by his descriptions). I appreciated his loving relationship with my mother, especially after my father died so many years ago. He will be sorely missed by me and the rest of the family.
