What a tragic way for the life of one of the most peaceful persons on earth to end. God bless you, your family, and the Tibetan people. Your passing is not in vain but will live as a symbol of those willing to sacrifice their lives for the freedom of people everywhere. You will live in our hearts forever. Freedom, Peace and Love.

Echoes of a Heartbeat, a tribute to my friend Jigme
The Marching of Souls for freedom
One step….
Forward…. In a timeless march toward independence.
One effort …. a one man army without arms … in peace … without fear …
To bring the level of consciousness toward an awakening.
Belief, effort, progress … one step at a time.
To hear the gravel beneath his feet, thoughts of the thundering it creates.
Fear … that is what is defeat … it cannot stop the steady march of his feet.
900 miles this march, not a single soul to support, not a defeat …
Millions he carries with this load … 900 miles in this tow … hope will be his stow
Let the echoes we hear of his footsteps launch a stampede of our heartbeats to support for the freedoms he seeks
Knowing in his heart, his soul is ours to meet
His heartbeat still echoes though not the marching of his feet.
We will all miss you my brother, my friend.

Chaille Stovall and HH The Dalai Lama met because Jigme didn't laugh at a little kid's wish to be heard.

To the friends and family of our beloved Jigme la:
My son first met Jigme when he was 10 years old and was making a documentary film about religion. He had seen the film, Kundun, about HH, the Dalai Lama, and he asked me if he was still alive. "Of course he is alive." I answered. "I need to talk to him." was his reply. Jokingly, I told Chaille to call the Dalai Lama's in New York City.
This set off a telephonic battle between Chaille and the Office of Tibet in New York. Chaille would call and ask for an interview, which, naturally, was politely declined. Chaille called for over a year until he became a kind of a joke around the office of Tibet. Chaille's voice was very high and squeaky, and got higher and squeakier, especially when he felt like he was not getting his way.
Jigme happened to be visiting New York and was at the office when Chaille called one day to repeat his request for an interview. Jigme heard the staff joking about the kid with the squeaky voice calling again, trying to talk to the Dalai Lama. Instead of laughing, Jigme became angry and said, "Why is this funny? Who better to talk to His Holiness than a child? This boy is our future and we are telling him NO?" The next day, Chaille received a call from Jigme who said that his uncle would be visiting Bloomington in a few months and Jigme then offered to sacrifice his own time with his uncle, so that Chaille could have a talk with him.
The film that came out of the interview (Looking 4 God) won first place at the National Children's Film Festival and caught the eye of executives at HBO.
The following year, Chaille was commissioned by HBO to make a film about young Tibetian Buddhist monks in India and his first call was to Jigme to see if he could come along on the trip. Jigme served as tour guide, friend and travel companion. We spent three months planning the trip with Jigme's help and then spent two weeks sharing adventures, jokes, and serious talks about his love for his family, passion for Tibet and his desire to serve his uncle HH the XIV Dalai Lama to the best of his ability.
Chaille was scheduled to give a screening of his film, Little Monk, at the end of Jigme la's walk, next week on the 25th in Palm Beach. We are sorry that we won't be sharing jokes or stories with Jigme as planned. It was a shock to hear that he was so needlessly killed. It's hard to believe that Jigme is no longer here with us. Our prayers and kind wishes go out to his family, especially his boys.
With love,
The Stovall Family
Chaille, Colleen and John
