Joanne KERR Obituary

KERR, Joanne M.
Joanne M. (Doherty) Kerr, 76, of New Harbor, ME and Palm Beach Gardens, FL died Sunday, December 20, 2015 in a hospice facility in West Palm Beach following a brief illness. She was born in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late Dr. Francis J. and Elizabeth (McDermott) Doherty.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 54 years, William A. Kerr of Palm Beach Gardens, a brother, Francis J. Doherty, Jr. of Lancaster, MA, and a brother-in-law, Donald Kerr of Webster, NY. She also leaves seven nieces and nephews: F. Joseph Doherty III and Kara L. Doherty of Worcester, MA; Sean W. Doherty of Mesa, AZ; Ann E. Smith of Huntersville, NC; Kevin L. Doherty of Leominster, MA; Alison Miller of Rowley, MA; and Beth Helfter of Pepperell, MA; as well as 15 grand nieces and nephews. Joanne leaves behind the many friends who she made and kept from elementary school days and throughout her entire life. In addition to her Maine and Florida residences, she and Bill lived for many years in the Greater Hartford, CT area. She was a graduate of Worcester State University where she was an active alumna. In her younger years, she taught school in California and Connecticut, and she was active in the Girl Scouts of America as a Troop Leader. Joanne was known in the family and beyond as the consummate hostess and the Kerr's entertained guests frequently at their Maine and Florida homes. Friends described Joanne as a "wonderful, generous, and loving person." The Kerr's traveled extensively and were especially fond of Bermuda where they vacationed many times. Her family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of St. Mary's Medical Center where she received exceptional care during her final illness. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 28th from 10:00AM to 11:00AM with funeral service to begin at 11:00AM, Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter. Joanne was a good friend of ours who kept in touch even after she and Bill moved away to Maine and Florida. We have fond memories of having dinners in their home in Manchester and I still remember them bringing a large plant (exbury azealia, carried by Bill!) to our new home in Glastonbury. Our conversations always included friends they had made from other countries. We also remember Joanne's delicious carrot cake (somehow she knew it was my favorite!) We will miss her. Our condolences to Bill and the rest of the family.

My Aunt Joanne always remembered all of our happy times. She and Uncle Bill were there whenever possible. My brothers and I spent many times with them throughout the years. My fondest being the summer I lived with them in Manchester. Joanne and I shared a love for books and she made sure I was enjoying myself during my stay. She introduced me to many of their friends, some of whom I am still in touch with. She will surely be missed by me and many others.

December 30, 2015

We met the Kerr's, as neighbors, in Marlborough on Jones Hollow Rd in the late 60's. Joanne (&Bill ) remained so dedicated to our friendship. They were always there through our highs and lows, which is difficult to fully express that appreciation. Joanne possessed a strong faith, a commitment to her extended families, a story teller regarding her Irish heritage and a quick wit to Bil/attending friends. Yes, she is missed, already. She framed our memories.
God Bless all who knew her!!

I enjoyed Joanne's quiet but sincere personality. We could always remember each other's name since they are the same. She loved reading and the lively discussions in Bookclub.

BJ and I offer our deepest sympathy to Bill and other members of Joanne's family. We will remember the many dinners at various holidays amd birthdays .Joanne was always very gracious and a wonderful conversationalist. We will miss her very much.

December 24, 2015

Our sympathy goes out to Bill and family members. Will always remember "The Smith Family Summer Reunions" in Ct. We would catch up on the pass years activities. As a former Girl Scout Leader, Joanne and I would discuss the happenings of the troop and she was most interested in our daughter Jennifer's involvement in the Girl Scouts throughout the years. Joanne will be sadlymissed, but the memories will live on.

Joanne will be most certainly missed for her bright wit, intelligence, wry sense of humor and gracious, welcoming smile. We met our neighbors, Joanne and Bill, in Maine more than 18 years ago, and ended up being neighbors in Palm Beach Gardens for 9 as well. Joanne loved her cats, Rory and Tiffany, and we delighted in the stories of their exploits, as she would tell, especially during the semi-annual travels north-south. We consider ourselves blessed to have known them both, shared meals and laughter and exchanged Maine-Florida vignettes. Our hearts are out to Bill and family for their loss. We all will surely miss her.
