JOSEPH GREGORY CUMMINGS Palm Beach, FL -- Gregory Cummings, 61, died unexpectedly of a heart seizure in his home, April 7, 2003. Mr. Cummings was born and raised in Pughkeepsie, New York. He attended Mitchell College, New London, CT and served in the U.S. Army. He is best described by those closest to him as a "creative entrepreneur" who developed numerous innovative businesses. He built and managed the original Squire's Inn, Poughkeepsie, NY, Squire's A-Go-Go, Arlington, NY and Squire's Restaurant, Briarcliff, NY. He designed, owned and operated the Coral Tree Racquet Club, Los Angeles, CA. He conceived the idea to build tables from naval ship hatch doors, now produced and used by dining establishments throughout the USA. He developed the Turkey Hill Farms Smokin' Chips Co., Milan, NY. LLBean and Bloomingdales began promoting the concept and selling the cooking chip products through their consumer catalogues. While residing in Newport, RI, he was involved in restoration and preservation of historic buildings. Builder and designer of several new homes, he is also r ecognized for the expanded development of Turkey Hill Farm, Milan, NY. He is predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Hoch Doscher, father, Joseph Mullen Cummings, MD, and stepfathers, Franklin G. Brehmer and C. Kingdon Doscher. Survivors include his sister, Barbara Cummings Stacks, Falmouth, MA, niece, Courtney Paige Stacks, Atlanta, GA, step siblings, Franklin Brehmer Jr., Greenport, NY, John Robert Brehmer, Vero Beach, FL, Elizabeth Brehmer, Granby, CT, Ellen Doscher Terpstra, Reston, VA, former wife, Cornelia Conroy Cummings, Milan, NY and other extended family. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at St. Patrick's Church, Palm Beach Gardens. A graveside service will be held at a later time , St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
