BLOOMINGTON - Charles A. Wheatley, age 89, of Bloomington, IL, passed away at 8:45 PM on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, IL.
His wife Janice will receive friends from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM Friday, September 20, 2024, at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, IL, and then his visitation will be extended to the public until 7:00 PM on Friday at the memorial home. His graveside service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington, IL. Pastor David Glesne will be officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the cemetery by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Alzheimer's Research or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Charles was born October 24, 1934, Bloomington, IL, the son of Wallace and Flossie Stiles Wheatley. He married Janice Hayslip on February 21, 1960, in Bloomington, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Donald (Tammy) Wheatley, David Wheatley, Bloomington IL,
Dan (Robin) Wheatley, Lakewood, CO, Dennis (Veronica) Wheatley, Green Valley, AZ, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, son Dale Wheatley and his sister Pauline Adams, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
Charles worked at Nussbaum Trucking Company, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 739. He had served in the US Air Force. Charles was a member of the Central Illinois Classic Car Club. He would take his small engine collection to the McLean County Fair. He enjoyed working on cars and small engines and old farm machinery. He enjoyed every morning going to Dennys Donuts and spending time with his friends. Charles served on the Bloomington Township Board. In his retirement he helped farm. He will be missed by all who knew him.
