Dr. H. Glen Meiner

PONTIAC - Dr. H. Glen Meiner, 88, of Pontiac, IL, died Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 6:18 a.m. at OSF St. James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac, IL.
His funeral will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Pontiac, IL, with Revs. Gretchen Stinebaugh and Tiffany Black officiating. Burial will be in Denman Cemetery, Carlock, IL. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Pontiac.
Memorials in Glen's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Doc as many called him was born on January 9, 1936 in Dewitt County, IL, the last of eight children of James and Edith (Brock) Meiner. He was raised on a farm in Carlock, IL, and graduated from ElPaso High School in 1953. After graduation he entered the University of Illinois. While there he worked in the Dairy Science Department. On August 4, 1956, he married Dolores Stevens at the University Ave Methodist Church in Peoria, IL. In 1957, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. Furthering his education he received his Doctor of Veterinary degree in 1959. He then joined Dr. R.D. Williams at the Pontia Veterinary Hospital. In 1962 Dr. Meiner was called to serve in the US Army. He received the rank of Captain and after two years he returned to his veterinary practice.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores Meiner of Pontiac, IL; three children: Debbie Ibsen of Bloomington, IL, Steve (Gayle) Meiner of Bloomington, IL and Bob Meiner of Pontiac, IL; nine grandchildren: Evan (Maranda) Ibsen, Andrew (Natalie) Meiner, Michael (Amanda) Meiner, Rhys (Kaylee) Meiner, William (Kylie Rupprecht) Meiner, Elizabeth Meiner, Grace Meiner, Emily (Ryan) Sweitzer and Ashley (Zach) Williams; fifteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Glen was preceded in death by one daughter in law: Bernadette Meiner, seven brothers and sisters.
Glen was a past member of the Pontiac Elks Lodge and a member of the American Veterinary Association.

Sorry for your loss of Glen. I knew you and Glen and your dad, Steve, and mom when we had square dances at the Carlock gym in 1952-55. You and Glen were such a sweet couple. I was the 12 years old girl that called the square dance "The girl that married dear old dad". Now I'm 84 and live in Carlock. I know exactly where Glen lived and where the Denman cemetery is located. Praying that God will comfort you and your family.
