Janet Wilson Obituary

Janet Louise (Jan) Wilson of Bloomington passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at the Carriages of Bloomington. She was born on January 7, 1934 in Lenzburg, Illinois, the daughter of David and Margaret Graf.

She was preceded in death by her sweetheart of 71 years Richard (Dick) Wilson. In addition to her husband, Jan was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Carl, Marguerite, Ann, and her in-laws Roe and Fern Wilson.

Mom will forever be missed by her children, Mike (Janet) Wilson of Newark, Ohio, Nancy (Suresh) Nirody of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kathy (Fred) Knapp of Crossville, Tennessee, and Jane (Scott) Flewelling of Champaign, Illinois. Jan was adoringly known as "Mommo" to her grandchildren Nick (Missy) Wilson, Shannon (Jonathan) Kurtz, Ben (Shannon) Meadors, Emily (Christopher) Roberts, Kelley Knapp, Amy (Evan) Knapp-Spencer, Brady Knapp, Kristofer, Samantha and Kreighton Flewelling, and her seven great-grandchildren.

Jan was raised at the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors Children's School (ISSCS). She valued the comradery of her fellow "home friends", remaining in contact with many and attending several ISSCS reunions. She attended University High School where she was fondly nicknamed "Ducky." She was elected homecoming queen for her graduating class of 1951.

After high school, Jan met Dick and they were married September 25, 1953. When Dick returned from the Army, they started their family. She spent many devoted years as mom before she entered the workforce. Her first job was working part-time in the housewares department at Sears. She then moved on to full-time employment as a secretary in the Administrative Services department of State Farm Insurance where she made many life-long friends. Retirement found her playing bridge, reading, watching golf, and most importantly taking trips to visit and support her grandchildren's activities. She was their biggest fan.

The family would like to thank the outstanding staffs of the Carriages of Bloomington and Transitions Hospice Care for the love and care they gave to Jan.

A family service will be scheduled for Dick and Jan in the future. To honor Jan's love of reading, memorials can be made to the Bloomington Public Library, attention Kathy Jeaklin, 205 E. Olive Street, Bloomington IL 61701.

I appreciated Jan's help as a young man getting started at State Farm. She was my secretary for 11 years. She tried to keep track of us, but we were not good and keeping her informed as we traveled a lot. Enjoyed her sweet spirit and infectious laugh. Praying for her family at this time!

I´m saddened to hear of Janet´s passing. I´ve never known a more positive person, quick with a smile and her laughter infectious. I always loved her quiet elegance. Sending prayers to all.
