Jean Marie Williamson

May 20, 1929 - Sept. 28, 2023

SAYBROOK - Jean Marie Williamson, 94, of Saybrook, passed away on September 28, 2023. She was born May 20, 1929 in Sparta, TN to James H. Shubert and Elizabeth Shubert, Saybrook, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard Lewis Williamson, three sons: Gerald L. Williamson and Thomas L. Williamson (Candy), a baby, John, son-in-law, Verl, Jr. Jamison, brothers: James Shubert, Tom Shubert, Abe Shubert, Carl Shubert and sisters: Aline Hittle and Rose Mounts.

She leaves two daughters: Peggy Clark (Mark) and Barbara Nunamaker (Delmar), both of Saybrook; grandchildren: Jerry Williamson, Jr. (Liz), Carlisle, SC, Jason Williamson (Janet) LeRoy, Bryon Williamson (Becca), Brandon Jamison (Leah), Ryan Jamison (Dusty), Casey Williamson, all of Saybrook, Heather Steidinger (Chad), Sibley; and 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and grand dog, Oliver.

Jean came to Indiana with her family from Tennessee and helped her grade school teacher grade papers. She taught her sister to ride a bike and drive a car.

The family later moved to the country west of Gibson City, where she worked at the Delco and met her husband, Lewis. Later mom worked as a maid for an attorney in Bloomington. Mom and dad were married on Feb 13, 1948 and moved to Saybrook. Lewis died in 2003.

While raising her four children, she also babysat for years, hung wallpaper for her home and family and friends, permed other ladies hair, and volunteered at fundraisers for the school making doll cakes, which were also a favorite of her daughters.

She made our Barbie Doll clothes, and sock monkey dolls for her family and other children. She was also a great cook.

Mom loved her church, Wesbein United Methodist Church in Saybrook, where she was a member for over 70 years, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and arranged luncheons and dinners and attended evening circle.

She loved children, and liked being called Grandma Jean to all of them. She was also a member of the Womens Auxiliary many for years, and Red Hat Club.

A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Saybrook on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Wayne Giermann officiating.

Memorials can be to the WUMC, Saybrook.

Calvert-Belangee-Bruce, Saybrook is in charge.

We loved her with all our hearts. She is in the arms of Angels now.

A very special lady. Having known her all my life. She was someone who lit up the room. Always helping at the church. Truly will be missed by all. God bless and comfort the family as they grieve .
