Russell C. "Buck" Stevens

September 27, 1935 - June 10, 2025

NORMAL - Russell C. "Buck" Stevens, 89, of Normal, passed away at 1:06 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington. A visitation will be held the same day, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at East Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Bloomington. Military rites will be accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard.

Russell proudly served his country in the United States Army and in his memory, memorial contributions may be made to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund or Disabled American Veterans.

Buck was born on September 27, 1935 in Roodhouse, Ill., a son to Richard P. and Helen (Davis) Stevens.

He married Delores J. Barlow on November 24, 1956 in Roodhouse. She preceded him in death in 2013.

Surviving are his sons, Russell E. (Jennifer) Stevens of Roberts and Robert L. (Amanda) Stevens of South Carolina; daughters, Cheryl A. (Larry) Cline of Normal and Carol R. Stevens of Champaign; brother, James Stevens of Oakdale, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

Buck was a long-time railroad conductor with GM&O Railroad and later with Amtrak, retiring in 1999. He loved and enjoyed the joy that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him. Buck was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and a long-time Chicago Bears fan.

He enjoyed gardening and planting flowers.

Buck will be dearly missed by his family and those who called him friend.

Russell was a great neighbor along with Delores for many years on Carriage Hills Rd. He lived a long life and enjoyed talking about his roots in Roodhouse and the Cardinals. We stayed in touch when he moved and he will be missed.
