Carroll Bennett Obituary

Alto - Funeral service for Carroll A. Bennett Jr., 88, of Alto will be Monday, August 15th, at 3pm at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Bennett and Rev. Gene Kendrick officiating. Burial will be in the Alto City Cemetery. Mr. Bennett died Thursday in Nacogdoches. He was born April 2nd, 1928 in Alto, Tx to Carroll A. Bennett Sr. and Verda Kate Mason Bennett. At the age of 18 he hitchhiked to Houston in search of employment. He met his future wife Mary on the volleyball court and they lived in Pasadena for 30 years before retiring back to Alto in 1983. Mr Bennett had worked at Diamond Shamrock in Deer Park for 21 years and had also worked for the City of Houston and Shell Chemical. He was a member of the Reklaw Baptist Church and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Alto and Campground Baptist Church. Mr. Bennett had served as a Deacon since 1964. Provider, protector, planner, supporter and servant, "Dad" represented his "greatest generation" well. Uncomfortable with personal attention, he enjoyed and appreciated the success of others. He embodied the stability and security of the American father figure; "head of household" and what it should always represent. Dad's values and work ethic are not lost on friends and family that honor him, and will live on through them, and those they influence, because of his obedience and faithfulness to our Lord and Saviour, Christ Jesus. We thank "Dad" for his life and legacy, God is faithful. He was preceded in death by brothers Clement Bennett and Troy Bennett, sister Vera Faye Rhodes, daughter Carolyn Ann Bennett and great grandchildren Benjamin, Jacob and John. Survivors include wife of 66 years Mary A. Bennett of Alto, sons and daughters-in-law Jerry E. Bennett (DeeAnne) of Alto, Ricky W. Bennett (Celinda) of Pasadena and Ronny D. Bennett (Suzanne) of Richards, brother and sister-in-law Truett Bennett (Kay) of Silsbee, grandchildren John David (Stefanie), Paul (Katrina), Mary (Todd), Haley, Caitlyn, Christa and Ceanna, great grandchildren Mason, Hannah and Thomas as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home in Alto from 5-7 PM
