So sorry I missed the news of this memorial service. I knew Mike from EARLY days at Rayburn. One memory that is still fresh in my mind was walking past the house The Dimensions were practicing at and hearing them play Nowhere Man by the Beatles...I just stood there amazed. He must have been all of 15, maybe 16 at the time. Mike was THE MAN on guitar and truly deserved his place in the great bands he played in.
I didn't know him well but everything I needed to know about his music was out there very early, and very clear. He was a heck of a guy. Thanks for some beautiful memories, Mike. Godspeed on your journey...

Wendy and Boo,
What a special and talented man! So many good memories from the neighborhood to being a "groupie" at the Blackie and the Bullets gigs. I could count on Mike's e-mails about what was happening on the music scene and music history. We didn't get the chance to exchange that copy of the Sound Investment Anthology, however I do have a few downloads he sent. The man just loved music! Wendy you were his only love and he adored you, what an incredible way to live! I often thought that Boo was getting right up there with you! Mike will be thought of for many years to come!

Mike was a gifted musician and never wavered from his tasks. He was a delight to have as a friend during our 4 years at Sam Rayburn High School. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family. God gave him the gift of Music and he used that talent wisely....

many great memories. hundreds of great gigs, travels, recordings. our taste in music were identical. we were like brothers in every way. we went to the Grammy's, R'n''R hall of fame, Vegas for the Beatles 'Love' show, opening act for major stars, worked together at CAL for years, best man at he and Wendy's wedding, we shared a love of flashlights, loved my mom and dad as I did his, watched his children grow from babies, shared boys night out in my LRoom, we became friends w/Lil Feat. like true friends, we would visit, and hardly say a word to one another. wasn't necessary...we of the same mind for 47 years. I am still in shck and denial.

I knew Blackie from high school and re-connected when I wrote Boys From Houston. We interviewed and he also wrote a lovely piece for the back cover about what music has meant to him. Vicki Welch Ayo

I still have very fond memories of listening to The Sound Investment during my Sam Rayburn high school years. I graduated in 1968. Y'all were always winning the battle of the bands. Those were the days.

I called Mike the "Professor" because he knew so much about the science and intricacies of airline operation. We became close in 1987 when I managed the control center in one of our airline hubs. It was some years later that we began to share our love for music. When I moved to Houston in 2011, I recognized my dream to play music with Mike. It was very sweet,. I will remember him as a gentle. wise, humorous country gentleman. Will miss him very much.

I worked with Mike for several years and have had the pleasure of going out and hearing his "Bleike and the bullets" band. Words are not adequate to express the sadness we all feel.
