D. J. "Judd" Longley, DDS passed away peacefully on September 19, 2016 at age 87. He and his wife Polly were married 64 years and lived in Austin since their retirement in 1995. Judd was known as a painless dentist practicing his profession for forty years - first in Midland, Texas - then for thirty years in Deer Park.
Judd is also survived by his three children, Paul Longley of Austin; David Longley of League City; and daughter Sara Longley of Houston.
Judd was born in Brownwood, Texas on September 9, 1929 and he was the youngest of four sons born to Fay and Clem Longley. He attended Brownwood Public Schools where he graduated from Brownwood High in 1946. Polly was his high school sweetheart and, as seniors, she was voted most beautiful and he most handsome.
After high school, Judd attended North Texas State University both before and after serving as a Lieutenant in the Air Force flying jets in Alaska during the Korean conflict.
It was during his military service that he married Polly. She soon joined him in Alaska where she taught English at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage until he completed his military service. Judd then finished his studies at North Texas and subsequently attended Baylor University College of Dentistry in Dallas where he graduated in 1959.
Judd had friends everywhere. He loved golf and enjoyed every minute of the time that he spent at "Old Muny." Judd loved being with his friends and family, and particularly enjoyed cooking and working crossword puzzles every morning.
The family wishes to express their special thanks to Lilly and Dee for their tender and loving care.
Judd's final wishes were that he be cremated and no services be held. The family soon will hold a celebration of Judd's life at Austin's Shoal Creek Saloon on Lamar Boulevard -- where Judd spent many a happy hour with his long-time friend, Jim Beam.
