1940-2012
Larry Slack, 72, of Deer Park, TX passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012.
He was born in Glendale, CA on Jan 26, 1940, and he became a Texan as quickly as he could. Larry was a retired Army Master Sergeant with overseas service in Europe, Korea, Southwest Asia, Japan, Vietnam and other parts of Asia.
Papa, as he was known later in life, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. For the last thirty-three years he worked with his brother, David at Wingo's Appliance and A/C at Leak Detection Specialist. He was very active and involved with his grandchildren, which had become his obsession. He was also crazy about motorcycles, owning more than 14 at one time.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Slack, brother David Slack, sister, Joyce Bowman, children, Lonnie Slack, Diane Sharp, and Richard Howells, and six grandchildren, Jenny Sharp, Aleia Slack, Morgan Brassill, Lauren Sharp, Aaron "A.J" Sharp, and Mason Howells. He also is survived by numerous nephews and nieces - including two special nieces he jokingly liked to call "bimbos", Kathy Morgan-Bliss and Yvonne Wampler - and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Barbara Slack, brother "Bobby" Slack and sister Barbara Myers.
A memorial and celebration of his life took place at Pasadena Funeral Chapel in Pasadena, TX on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 10am. A time of fellowship followed at Faithbridge Church in Deer Park, TX.
He lived for his God, family and country. Heaven has gained a warrior.
