Lucille Royer Mitchell
Vinton, LA- Lucille Royer Mitchell, 89, died Saturday, August 29, 2015, in League City, Texas. Lucille was born April 29, 1926 to Raymond and Muriel Royer, residents of Big Woods, Louisiana. She became a Christian at the age of 12. This act of surrender to Jesus guided her choices throughout the rest of her life. Growing up in this small country community, she attended school in Vinton and graduated on May 25, 1943. She soon met her husband to be, Lawrence Mitchell from DeQuincy, and they were married on May 7, 1945. They built a home in Big Woods and began a family. Five children were born to Lawrence and Lucille. They faithfully attended Magnolia Baptist Church and enjoyed the relationships they had with many families of the Christian community. In 1962, the family moved to Deer Park, Texas, where they became active in the First Baptist Church. Lucille sang in the choir, was an active member of the WMU, and as a couple they faithfully taught a Sunday School class for three year olds for 15 years. In 1979, they retired back to her parent's home in Big Woods. This became the social gathering place for their friends and the Mitchell family for many years. Lawrence died in February of 2004. Lucille remained in the family home until her stroke in January of 2012. At that time, she moved in with family in the Houston area. She will be remembered by her family as a caring, loving wife and mother. Her friends will remember her as a believer they could count on when times were stressful. Today she enjoys the riches of Heaven and the endless days with her Lord and the loved ones that have gone before. Survivors include her children, Norma Blakley and husband, James Lee of Livingston, Texas, Bonnie Guidry and husband, Thomas of Deer Park, Texas, Danny Mitchell and wife, Elizabeth of League City, Texas, and Gary Mitchell and wife, Karen of Deer Park, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Mitchell of Beach City, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence J. Mitchell; and a son, Terry Mitchell. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 4, in Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton, Louisiana. Her son, Rev. Danny Mitchell will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jason Mitchell, Kevin Mitchell, Keith Blakley, Jay Anderson, Paul Carrillo, Jake Morris, and Johnny Rodriguez. Burial will be in Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly, Louisiana. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the funeral home. Dear Mitchells, I was so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I do so hate that we are now becoming the "older" generation, but am so delighted that she and mom will be together again to chat away! Lucille always kept us up on the people in Deer Park, and what was happening at First Baptist. In a lot of ways, I feel like we never left town. She will be sorely missed by all. I am trying to make it to the funeral, but in case I do not, please know that we love you all and hold you up in prayer. All my love, Marsha Hart

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time as you say goodbye to your Mother. Lucille was such a strong sweet fun lady ! She could get a kitchen or any type of work detail in order and continuously be smiling the entire time .... It is so sad for us as our parents leave this home but just think of the fun and rejoicing those "first cousins" are having in heaven .... So sorry I will not be able to attend but certainly will be lifting you all up in my prayers ...
