Marvel McPail Gartman passed peacefully from this life on October 23, 2014 at Heritage House Assisted Living in Pasadena. She was born on November 14, 1912, in Brookhaven Mississippi to Clauren and Lizzie Mae McPhail. She was married to Ray Gartman for 30 years before his death. Her precious old daughter, Virginia Hosford died in 1994. She is survived by her daughter Joyce Standefer Powitzky, grandchildren Glen and Holly Standefer of Bay City, Texas and Deborah (Lee) Avinger and Willie (Donna) Hasford of Mobile Alabama. Also 7 great grandchildren and 2 great - great grandchildren.
Marvel was strong, enduring, loving, brave and funny. She loved everyone. She did not dwell on the past; she always lived in the present and looked to the future with optimism. She was a Christian and loved the Lord. She was a member of South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena.
Joyce wishes to thank the staff at Colonial Oaks Assisted Living for the loving care her mother received for 5 years, and Heritage House Assisted Living and the wonderful "angels" from Grace Hospice, especially Denise Burdick, for making her mother's transmission to Heaven so sweet. There will be a private grave-side service with Dr. Ron Lyles presiding.

My grandmother was at Colonial Oaks with Marvel and sat with her at her table. She had such a wonderful and sweet disposition. So sorry for your loss.
