Barbara Baxter Obituary
Barbara passed away peacefully in her home Friday, December 9th after complications from a surgery. She will be missed by the many lives she touched during her 81 years of life. She lived life to the fullest. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she played an important role in the lives of all her family and friends, touching everyone in her positive, nurturing way. For many years she was an avid bridge player and director at the Bridge Academy in Reseda and a bridge director at the Pleasant Valley Bridge Club in Camarillo as well as a church librarian at Saint Peter Claver church in Simi Valley.
Barbara was born in Utica, New York, August 23, 1930, spent her childhood in New York City and migrated west to Burbank, California in 1948 with her mom Gertrude (deceased), her dad Jim (deceased) and her sister Jackie (deceased) and her sister Patty (survived by).
At Los Angeles City College, she met and fell in love with John Baxter. They married February 2, 1951, and moved to Sepulveda where they raised five children for the next 30 years. When her husband retired, they moved to Glendale in 1981 where they lived until he died in 1991. She eventually settled in Simi Valley near her children.
She is preceded in death by John Baxter, and she leaves behind her legacy of children , grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her five children and (spouses): John and (Karen) Baxter, Simi Valley; Mary and (Lou) Fols, Simi Valley; Chris and (Tracie) Baxter, Santa Barbara; Tom and (Kim) Baxter, Agoura Hills; and Bill and (Tiffany) Baxter, Simi Valley. She will be terribly missed by her 15 grandchildren, and three great-grand children.
Funeral Services will be held 9 a.m. Thursday, December 15th at Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary, 11160 Stranwood Avenue, Mission Hills.

I was so fortunate to be Barbara's hairdresser for the last several years. She always talked about her kids, and grand kids, and the beach. She was so very proud of each and every one of you. We always talked about when she lived in Sepulveda and the schools her kids went to. Seems like her kids and my sisters and I all went to Monroe High School. And we talked about how the valley has changed. My Friday mornings will not be the same without her. Always smiling, always happy and loved her blonde hair. She will be missed by the ladies at the Salon. When I think of her...it leaves me smiling. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal". You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

How blessed we have been all these years to have Aunt Barbara in our lives. I can just see her smiling as she goes through heavens gate to meet up with the old gang!

I knew Barbara as a bridge player and director. She was a kind & friendly woman. Our community will be poorer with her passing.

I was so very fortunate to have Barbara as my mother-in-law. She was such a strong woman with such understanding ways. She was so full of love for her family and had so much knowledge to share. I will miss her always.
