Marlene Arnold Obituary

ARNOLD -Marlene Ann Arnold, born August 3, 1953 in Glendale, California, passed away at her home in San Gabriel on July 3, 2002, after a valiant two-year battle against breast cancer. She is survived by her beloved husband of 27 years, Richard; her three loving sons, Stephen, Michael and Kenneth. She also leaves her mother, Marguerite Sweet; her sister, Lorraine (Ted) Richter; her brothers, Frank Jr., James, Robert and Tom Sweet; as well as several nieces and nephews. Marlene was a truly beautiful person who enjoyed life to it's fullest even after being diagnosed with cancer. Her passing leaves an enormous void in our hearts as she touched, inspired and was loved by many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Marlene's love of children extended beyond raising her three beautiful sons as she was a devoted Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Coordinator for her church in San Gabriel. She was also active for many years with the Wilson Elementary School PTA. One of her greatest enjoyments was conducting history/nature tours for school children at The Arboretum of Los Angeles County as a Los Voluntaries. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 11, 2002, at San Gabriel First United Methodist Church, 201 North San Gabriel Blvd., San Gabriel. Graveside Services and Internment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Park, 200 East Duarte Road, Monrovia. (626) 359-5311.

Thinking of Marlene and her family as another anniversary of her passing has come upon us. Recently I recalled a memory of her dancing at one of our high school reunions. She was having such a fun time! May God bless her family.

I went to elementary school with Marlene and sadly learned of her passing many years after the fact. We had lost touch over the years. Once she took me to her house after school and I met her nice mom who was busy in the kitchen and caring for her family. I remember Marlene as being kind and friendly, smiling, and with a positive, happy attitude. She was someone easy to like. I hope her sons will remember their mom as the beautiful, kind person she was.

Marlene was an inspiration to many all through her struggle. Her faith was so strong, even knowing how sick she was. I am glad I had the chance to know her.
