Julie Bowman Obituary
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at Soldotna Bible Chapel with a reception to follow.
Julie was born in Lake City Michigan, to Walter and Audrey Hunt. She was the fourth of five children. Julie graduated for Merritt High School in 1961, and earned an associate degree in retailing and small business management from Ferris State University in 1963. She managed and worked in her family's Variety store in Lake City until July 1966.
Julie married her best friend, Lee Bowman, in July 1963. She, with her husband and daughter, Debbie, moved to Alaska "for a year" in July 1966. On May 10, 1967, a daughter, Bobbie, was born. The family moved to their current "homestead" home in November 1969.
Julie was an avid gardener and totally loved her farm life. She actively participated in all facets of farm life from putting up hay to caring for a wide variety of horses, chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and dogs and cats. She was also a master seamstress, owning her own sewing business for over 25 years. She was renowned for her polar fleece garments, especially socks and hats. She also was fantastic homemaker with a wide reputation for chocolate baked goods. Her love of chocolate was second only to her family and her Lord. She was convinced that being a grandmother was the best job in the world.
Julie was preceded in death by her daughter Debbie Clonan, and parents Walt and Audrey Hunt.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Lee; daughter, Bobbie; granddaughters, Carol and Katherine Clonan; grandson, Shea Murphy; granddaughter Gratia Kautek; brother, Walter Hunt Jr. (Carol); sisters, Nadine Norby, Carla Johnson (David) and Jill Weiss (Arnie); and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a contribution be made to S.O.A.R. Ministries, 135 Granite Pt. Court, Kenai, AK 99611, or WOW, 250 Hospital Place, Soldotna, AK 99669.
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.

Lee and family,
You have our sincerest condolences. Julie did so much. We still have fleece coats she made, and it was always such a joy to talk with her about gardening. She will be greatly missed.

When Julie smiled everyone smiled and her laugh was very contagious, she was so knowledgeable about gardening, as is Lee, and was more than willing to share what she knew, she will be missed.
