Joseph Patti Obituary

Joseph B. Patti

1945-2017

Captain Joseph B. Patti, 71, died Sunday, April 16, 2017.

Joseph "Joey" Patti was born on November 9, 1945 to Captain Joe Patti and Anna Patti. He was called home to Our Lord God Almighty on Easter Sunday. He was a lifelong resident of Pensacola. He graduated from Pensacola Catholic High and served in the United States Army.

Joey was multi-talented. There was not an engine that he could not rebuild. He was a top-notch diesel mechanic. As an icon of Pensacola he was known as the #1 street rod racer. Whether it was his vintage supercharged sedans or his many corvettes, one especially known as the corvette dragster the "Patticake", there was not a street race he could not resist. Captain "Joey" was a fun, loving, kind, compassionate, man of God that will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Joey became a boat captain at an early age and was one of the best Captains Pensacola has ever seen following in the footsteps of his father. He successfully weathered many storms and hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico ranging from Key West to Mexico and Central America.

Joey could never remain idle. He and his former wife, Jeanne Patti, started Captain Joey Patti's Seafood Deli. Because he loved the water so much, he eventually returned to shrimping.

Joseph Patti was greeted at Heavens gates by his father, Captain Joe Patti; mother, Anna Patti; brother, Sammy Patti; his nephew, Joseph D. Patti and niece, Ginger Patti.

Survivors include his two sisters, Maria Patti Vann and Josie Patti Merritt; his two brothers, Frank Patti, Sr. and Gerard Patti, Sr. and countless nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his soulmate and best friend, Heidi Gibson.

A Rosary service will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at Harper- Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd, Pensacola, Florida with Fr. Nicholas Schumm presiding. A memorial of his life will follow featuring Pastor Randy Hamil and family. The visitation will continue until 7:00 pm.

On Thursday April 20, 2017 a mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church, 3295 Barrancas Avenue, Pensacola, Florida. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be nephews: Michael Vann, Joshua Patti, Gerard Patti, Jr., Sammy Joe Patti, Charles Merritt, Frank Patti, III, Carter Scarritt and Michael Patti.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Frank Patti, Jr., Daniel Patti, Isaac Patti, Jonathan Patti, Donnie Mandel, James Campbell and Tony Minton.

The Patti Family would like to say a big thank you to all the staff at Select Specialty Hospital for their great care of our beloved "Joey Patti".

Our first trip to Joe Patti's many years ago started a forever trend for us. We moved to Oklahoma and we had our friends stoping each time they came through Pensacola. We moved back and it's all we can think about, that Lobster, crab legs and fish, Joe Patti's. Thank you so much for the best place ever. Thank you Joseph B. Patti. Forever in our hearts!

Worked at Joe Patti's Seafood when I was a young man still in high school in the late 70's and early eighties. This is where I first met Capt Joey Patti. He was a excellent Captain, who caught several thousands pounds of shrimp or fish, depending on what the market needed.
First thing Joey did when he came back off a fishing trip was to find his Dad either in the office or out in retail doing what he did best selling seafood. Once, he found his Father, the"World Famous Capt Joe Patti" he would give him a big ole hug and kiss. He loved his Dad and Mother Mrs. "Anna" dearly and they the same. We will miss his smiling face and his love for his family. He's made his final journey, and is united in heaven with his parents once again. Robert Flirt Jr. and Family.

My condolences go out to the Patti family and all of Joe's relatives. I have only been to Joe Patti's Seafood Store once years ago and everyone seemed very nice. It seemed like he was a wonderful man by all the posts I have seen. I never got the opportunity to meet him in person. He is not suffering and has gone to be with the Angel's now. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm praying for your family during this difficult time. May God Bless all of you.

Our condolences to an endearing man and family. I have spoken fondly about him and his operation for so many years.

Our Mom arranged with Joe Patty for me at age 10 yrs ( must be around the year 1962) to "learn how to shrimp" on one of joe's boats in the early morning hours before dawn. I learned a life lesson how hard the shrimper's life is. I have always cherished that memory.

My respect to him, the family members and the family of workers that shared in his love of others and his life in Pensacola.

When you think of"Pensacola", you think of the name "Patti Seafood" It goes together!! I no longer live there but have known the name "Patti" Vann for a long time. I knew Maria Patti when she taught my children in Elberta, AL at St. Benedicts Grade School (she was my son Michael's 6th or 7th grade Teacher.) We had a wonderful friendship back then and when I began working at Fisher-Brown in 1973 until I retired in 1999, the name "Patti" was prominent there as we insured their businesses. I am sorry to hear of Joey's passinig and will keep him and the family in my prayers. If Maria happens to read this, I would love to hear from her. Pensacola will always be home to me. My M/A is: P.O.Box 2998, LaBelle,FL 33975
