Richard Burger Obituary

Passed peacefully at home after a brief illness. Dick was born in Cornwall-on-the-Hudson NY to Pratt Burger of Sawkill NY and Dorothea Kane of Spring Glen NY growing up in Newburgh NY. He was a WW II veteran of the Asian theater participating in the invasions of New Guinea and the Philippines. After his discharge he married Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Guyder of Monroe NY and moved to Lakewood NJ where he worked as civil service on the U S Navy Blimp program. There he held positions as member of Performance Review Board, Reclamation Board, NAS Lakehurst Employees Assoc Director, Federal Employees Local 284 President and Advisor, New Jersey State National Federation of Federal Employees President. In 1961 he moved his family to Gulf Breeze FL and transferred to Naval Air Rework Facility (NARF) at NAS Pensacola where he held job titles of Aircraft Mechanic, Aircraft Examiner and finally Planner and Evaluator. He volunteered at St Francis of Assisi Episcopal church, coached Little League baseball, Sec/Tres and Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 11 and member Board of Adjustments for City of Gulf Breeze.
Dick is survived by his son Douglas Burger and wife Julie, grandsons Christopher and Justin all of Pensacola FL.
A memorial service will be held from 4 to 5:30 pm on Friday, Feb 13 2009 in the atrium of St Francis of Assisi Episcopal church, 1 St Francis Dr. Gulf Breeze. He and his wife Betty will be interned at Barrancas National Cemetary at a later date.
Thanks to Baptist Hospital Gulf Breeze; EVERYONE at Bay Breeze; Diane, Dara and Towada of Emerald Coast Hospice. Special thanks go out to Patty/Bill, Dan/Dion, Steve/Martha, Charlie/Betty, Buddy/Terri and Jeff/Shannon who all exemplify the meaning of "neighbor". Aloha ke Akua!!
In lieu of flowers, Dick and family request you give a large bag of groceries and/or clothes to one of our local charities.

Our deepest sympathy to Doug, Julie, Chris and Justin. We will always remember Daddy Richard as the independent person who loves his family, especially when he accepted our sister Julie as his own daughter. Our prayers to him as he joined our Creator. We love you Daddy - Ben, Susan and children

To the family of Richard and Betty, our prayers are with you and your family.
We met and got to know each other during the time they had their boat at Harbor View marina. They will always be remembered as the nicest, friendliest folks on the dock. Our condolences and best wishes are with you all from the family of Jay de la Cruz.
