I was an old student in the nineties: I had failed algebra not once but twice in high school starting in 1957 about the time Dave was born into the world of ours. I so appreciated his getting me through Intermediate algebra with the Sanforizing instructor: john I forget now. I was so happy: I had him tutor me privately through intermediate algebra finals. I passed with a C thank you Dave: we sure miss you. I once saw him shopping at G and G in Petaluma where Safeway is now by the Junior college in Petaluma. I think of him a lot yet. I was orphaned at age six in the old country of Italy in the forties after the war and immigrated in 1952 and put in foster families that I wish to forget, but the main thing is that I am trying to write my story of in spite of and AGainst All Odds, I survived to tell my story and one day maybe have it published for future benefit to offer solace and fortitude to those in need. Amen to all that. joe of SRJC grad 1999 with two associate degrees thanks to Dave and his help in algebra. Rest in peace Dave for you sure helped me so much in my time of need to feel I finally got through algebra in spite of all odds.

Mr Shick
What can I say. He was a great teacher. He was funny, knowledgeable, ahead of his time in theory, and just a great statistician. I will always remember the paper towel scene 2010 stats class, he knows what I´m talking about. Especially Mitch reddick and Kris farina

I am so sad to hear about this news. Dave was such an amazing human. He tutored me in statistics right before covid started and was super flexible when we had to go online, he just wanted to help. Great energy every meeting. I could not have passed my classes without him. Not only was he a genius but he was super kind and personable. He always cared to hear about my weekends and asked me about my life! I absolutely love Dave and he will be missed!

Hello Shick family;
I've just heard of Dave's passing, but I knew him as Mr Shick. He was my math teacher in 2002 at SV, and I was one of his first students there. He was a terrific, funny and genuine man, who offered his time to me (us) whenever possible. I am so terribly sorry to hear of his passing. God bless you all

Dave was one of the best human beings I´ve ever met. The best tutor a student can ask for. Generous, kind, understanding, and a math wiz. He will be missed deeply

I am so sorry Dave has passed. I knew Dave from SRJC where we became good college friends and study partners. Always admired him for his love of math and how helpful he was to so many fellow students during that time. He was fun to be around off campus too. I will always remember his special smile and how he was just 100% himself. Prayers to family.

I sure liked how Dave
Schick got me through algebra at SRJC in the nineties : especially in Martin's intermediate algebra in the late nineties: tutoring me at a cafe.....so greatly grateful to him and he will live in my memory all my days. Thank you , Dave
