Darrell Shepherd Obituary
Norfolk - Darrell F. Shepherd, the son of the late French and Levonia Shepherd, passed away on April 14. He was born in Morehead City, N.C. on December 28, 1943. He is survived by his wife, Jean, of Norfolk; his brother, Larry (Carol), of Mechanicsburg, Va.; a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
He was a graduate of Granby High School and attended Frederick College, Old Dominion University, Tidewater College, and took several work-related classes. After working about 30 years on government jobs he retired from NAS as an airfield lighting specialist.
He was a long-time, active member of Miles Memorial United Methodist Church. He served as president of the Aldersgate Class, United Methodist Men, Church Historian, president of the Norfolk District Historical Society, and worked on various committees as needed. He also worked with the Boy Scouts and reorganized the church softball team several years ago.
He had been a loyal supporter of the ODU Lady Monarchs basketball team for more than 35 years.
A celebration of his life will be held by the Rev. John Haynes at Miles Memorial United Methodist Church, 9450 Granby Street, Norfolk on Sunday, April 27. There will be a gathering of friends at 1:15 p.m. followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity or to Miles Memorial.
