David Austin Hamilton Jr.

David Austin Hamilton Jr., 77, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Born February 13, 1945 in Salisbury, NC to David Austin and Mary Pauline Hamilton. Coming from humble beginnings, his entrepreneurial spirit began at an early age.

A talented musician, he spent many long nights playing the drums and traveling the east coast with his band, The Fabulous Five. They performed in and sold out many coveted venues. Though tiring, his early performance career allowed him to proudly purchase his first new car at 18 years old.

After his time with The Fabulous Five, he took an entry level job with a flooring company. He worked his way up, eventually becoming a successful businessman in both Virginia and North Carolina. He developed hundreds of homes in one of his favorite places, the Outer Banks, and grew many successful companies, including his flooring business, Mill End Carpet Shops. One of the shops is now owned and operated by his son, Tripp.

His business success allowed him to indulge in his love for high-speed sports cars. He built a collection of rare vehicles, met like-minded friends along the way, and eventually became a Formula One race car driver and team owner.

After many years on the road, he slowed down after meeting his beloved wife, Kaddy Hamilton, the true joy of his life. They spent the past 12 years loving each other unconditionally. They frequented their home in the Outer Banks, took many trips to warmer places, and spent countless days at the cabana with family and friends.

In addition to his devoted wife, Katherine C. Hamilton, David is survived by his son David "Tripp" Austin Hamilton III, and his two stepsons, Cecil and Carter Ward. The family would also like to thank Suzanne Panneton, his office manager for the past 20 years, and Red Veranga, David's caretaker for the last year of his life, who truly became part of the family.

A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 PM, Friday, October 21st, 2022 at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Laskin Road Chapel. Online condolences may be offered to the family at hdoliver.com.
