Brad was predeceased by his father E. Bradford Tazewell; his mother, Elizabeth Whaley Tazewell; his brother, William Littleton Tazewell; and his son, E. Bradford Tazewell III. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou and his two daughters: Margaret Armistead Tazewell of Virginia Beach and Elizabeth Littleton Tazewell of Frankfort, Ky. His daughter-in-law, Nancy Wallace Tazewell and her children: Anne Wallace Blair (Michael); E. Bradford (Ned) Tazewell IV and William Wallace Tazewell of Richmond, Virginia. Brad was born in Norfolk and attended public schools there before going to Episcopal HS in Arlington, Va. World War II had begun and Brad enlisted at the age of 17 in the Army, and volunteered for the Ski Troops of the Tenth Mountain Division. They played a key role in conquering several key mountain fortresses held by the Germans in the spring of 1944. President Roosevelt died on April 12th and the final push began on April 14th. Brad was severely wounded by machine gun fire near Bologna, Italy. Two days later, he was fortunate to wind up in a field hospital manned by staff from MCV. He returned by hospital ship to the US and was honorably discharged in July of that year.

He attended Architecture School at UVA, graduating in 1949, and he earned a Master's degree at University of Pennsylvania in 1951, where he won a year-long traveling scholarship in Europe. Upon returning to Norfolk, he and his former classmate, James Lee Williams, Jr, formed the firm Williams & Tazewell Architects in Norfolk. The firm grew to include over 60 architects and engineers. The firm designed many significant Tidewater Landmarks, including: Courts: Virginia Beach Courts, Chesapeake Court Complex, Hampton General District and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court and the renovation of the Norfolk Federal Court. Theaters: Chrysler Hall, Harrison Opera with Graham Gund and the Roper Theater. Sports: Scope building, Virginia Beach Sportsplex, Foreman Field Renovation, ODU Baseball Park and ODU Tennis Courts. Office Buildings: Bank of America Office Building with SOM, Norfolk Southern Tower, Town Point Center, Pavilion Center, Crown Center, The Atrium, Windwood Center, Amerigroup, Chesapeake Bay Administration Building. Colleges and Universities: UVA (3) Buildings, William and Mary (4) Projects, ODU (10) Projects, Norfolk State (2) projects, and Community Colleges including: Tidewater, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Eastern Shore and Christopher Newport. Hospitals and Medical: Richmond and Petersburg VA Hospitals, Leigh Memorial Hospital, Virginia Beach Hospital office building, Hague Medical Center, and Brambleton Medical Building. Parking Garages: Scope, Sentara, Waterside Garage and Bridge, Plume Lane Garage, ODU and Christopher Newport Parking Garage. Country Clubs: Princess Anne, James River, Cedar Point, Elizabeth Manor, Newport News. In addition to his many accomplishments as an architect, Brad also served as President of the Virginia Chapter of the AIA and was active in State architectural affairs for many years.

Brad was an avid sportsman whose passions included skiing, sailboat racing, and softball, and last but not least, "GOLF". Brad had been a member of the Princess Anne Country Club for more than eighty-five years. He was very active in golf, serving as President of the Middle Atlantic Golf Association and he served in various capacities of the VSGA. He set the amateur course record of 64 at the Princess Anne Country Club in 1956 and was twice a quarter finalist in the Virginia State Amateur Championship. He had played the PACC golf course, "maybe 3500 times", by his recollection.

I worked for Williams, Tazewell for 12 years. My first week at the firm, Brad turned 60 and there was a grand celebration at Town Point Club. When the firm was sold to TAF Group in 1996, I charge of the Interior Design department. Brad had a commanding presence and loved his profession and the firm. He was passionate and had fabulous attention to details. Williams, Tazewell was a treasured part of my career. Praying for many great memories of Brad to the whole Tazewell family.
Peace, Julie Thomas

Brad hired me after I got my degree in Architecture in 1972 and I worked at the Norfolk office and the Beach office for the next two and half years on a variety of projects. My uncle Walter F. Petty, who was also an Architect, worked with Brad's father at Peebles & Ferguson in Norfolk and I remember Brad Sr. coming by the office in Norfolk when I was there. I got a good start there and went on to work for the City of Va. Beach in project management for 32 years and during that time hired firms Brad was with for numerous projects. He certainly had a positive impact on Tidewater with his work, glad to have known him.
