Dr. Edward Meier Cross

Edward Cross Obituary

Dr. Edward Meier Cross, age 88, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 8, 2022. Edward was a native of Randolph, Massachusetts, and the son of the late Emma and Dr. Morris Cross. He was also predeceased by his brothers William Cross and John Cross, and by his first wife, Miriam Cross.

Edward was an alumnus of Milton Academy in Milton, MA, class of 1952, and a 1956 graduate of Harvard University. He received his Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania in 1963 and his Doctor of Business Administration with concentrations in Economics, Finance, and Quantitative Methods from George Washington University in 1970.

For thirty years, Edward was a Professor of Information Systems and Decision Sciences in the College of Business and Public Administration at Old Dominion University. A forensic statistician and economist, he also served as an expert witness in many court cases for forty years. He loved teaching and associating with students and colleagues. Edward enjoyed a Friday night poker game with friends for over forty years. He loved spending time with friends and family, cooking, food, reading, and travel, especially to his cherished summer home in Prince Edward Island, Canada. A quick wit with a constant sparkle in his eye, our beloved Edward was fun, but above all he was kind.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Marie Cross; his first daughter and son-in-law Kedron Gierman Fix and Captain Derek Fix, USN; his beloved granddaughters, Emma and Anna Fix; his brother Thomas Cross and wife Dayle; nephews Willie Cross and Mikey Cross; and many dear friends.

Edward was a member of Ohef Sholom Temple in Norfolk. A private family service will be held to commemorate his memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Norfolk Chapel is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be offered to the family through www.hdoliver.com.

Ed and I were roommates in Dunster F-52 at Harvard for three years. I have good memories of his progression from his motorcycle through his MG and finally his Triumph. And his trips to the AFROTC classes at MIT. And his evening card games in the suite next door leaving me free to work on my pre-med classes. My condolences to the entire family.
