Elizabeth Bunger Bray
Virginia Beach - Elizabeth Bunger Bray, formerly of Tenafly, New Jersey, died on September 28, 2012 in her home at Atlantic Shores Retirement Community in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born in Leonia, New Jersey, January 17, 1923, the only child of William Henry and Elizabeth Vogel Bunger.
Though her true passions were her family and home, Elizabeth served as an active member of the Junior League of Bergen County, was an avid duplicate bridge player, and throughout her life enjoyed horseback riding, golf, and paddle tennis. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tenafly.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband of almost seventy years, John Edward Bray, Jr., her son, John Edward Bray, III and his wife, Sandra Sorenson Bray of Tenafly, New Jersey, and her daughter, Elizabeth Bray Reed and her husband, J. Davis Reed, III of Virginia Beach, five grandchildren, Timothy John Bray, Shannon Bray Mahurter, Christopher Colby Bray, J. Davis Reed IV and Jonathan Bray Reed, and four great-grandchildren, Brayden Matthew Mahurter, Brynn Elizabeth Mahurter, Sarah Frances Bray, and Nicholas John Bray.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Atlantic Shores Retirement Community and Medi-Group Hospice for their extraordinary care and support, and wish to express their gratitude in particular to Georgia Broughton and Tiffany Broughton for their loving care during Elizabeth's final months.
Burial will be private in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, 17th Floor, Chicago, Illinois 60601-7633 and that donations be designated for Research. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Rd Chapel is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be made at hdoliver.com
