Gene Bryant Obituary
Portsmouth - Gene M. Bryant, 76, of Monitor Rd. passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015. He was born on July 19, 1938 in Durham, NC to the late Roy, Sr. and Martha Bryant. Gene was a car dealer and wholesaler for over 40 years; but he loved music. He spent over 40 years as a frontman, known as "Slim Bryant", playing Country & Western music in the Tidewater area; and Gene also hosted "Southern Gospel Sunday" on several AM radio stations for over 10 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Roy, Jr. and Charlie Bryant.
He is survived by his two sons, Patrick and Scott Bryant; two granddaughters; two great grandsons; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in Pinecrest Baptist Church by Rev. Tom Potter. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday evening from 6 8 PM. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel is handling these arrangements.

I worked with Gene and Charlie as one of the seaboard airline band members. Gene was always a gentleman and a great performer. I always enjoyed seeing him at the auctions. His smile and good nature will truly be missed.

Scott and Patrick, I was very sad to read of Gene's passing. I remember all the times he and my late husband Al went to the car sales together and the fun times they had with their group of friends. He will surely be missed for his music as well. My thoughts and prayers are with you both and also with your families.
