Hartley Dewey Obituary

Hartley F. Dewey

Virginia Beach - Hartley Dewey, 68, passed away July 24th after a 6 year battle with neuroendocrine cancer. He is survived by his bride of 47 years, Lorraine Fitzpatrick Dewey, sons Lee Dewey (his wife, Carrie, and their 5 children) and Kendall Dewey (his love, Christina Guillette). Brothers Craig Dewey (and family), Alan Dewey, and sister Debby Dewey.

Hartley graduated in 1965 from Warwick High School and went on to earn a degree in Accounting from William & Mary in 1969. As a CPA, he worked for Peat, Marwick & Mitchell, Landmark Communications, and most recently Schaubach Industries.

He loved golf, but had devoted himself to race walking with Tidewater Striders. He served as deacon and elder at Kempsville Presbyterian Church (KPC).

He lost the battle with cancer, but the victory is his as he rests in God's arms.

A celebration of a life well-lived will be held at KPC, August 5th, 2pm.

Lorraine,

June and I extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family on the passing of your dear Hartley. Even though we did not have much contact during the past several years, I so enjoyed our friendship and the time we spent together during our Rexall years. I will always remember Hartley as one of the kindest and most sincere men I've ever known.

Hartley will always forever be a shining Beacon of light and hope shining above the race walking community in Hampton Roads. He was a true inspiration to everyone who met him and despite his long battle with cancer he always had a smile on his face, a positive word to say and an enduring faith. I will miss him terribly but trust that he is in God's arms and is in heaven with many of my loved ones that I lost in the recent past ask. Lastly I am proud to say I was a Dewey Duck!!!!
