James Norwood Edge Jr.

1944 - 2021

James Norwood "Jimmy" Edge, Jr., 77, of Moyock, NC and Norfolk, VA died July 31, 2021 after a short illness. He was the son of the late James Norwood Edge, Sr. and Cora Leigh Scott Edge. He is survived by his siblings, Dalton S. Edge and wife Beverly of Chesapeake; the Rev. Jack Edge and wife Paula of Worthington, KY; the Rev. Anne E. Dale and husband Roland of Moyock; nieces and nephews.

Jimmy was born on March 6, 1944 in the years when children's special needs were poorly addressed. He persevered with his winning boyish grin and loving heart, establishing his independence and desire to be a part of the "rat race." Many friends passed through his life, and he loved them all and brought joy to many.

He was a life-long member of Moyock Baptist Church where he continued as an active participant until illness prevented his attendance. For more than 50 years, he recorded numerous Sunday services to be distributed to the home-bound. He held an associate's degree from Roanoke- Chowan Community College. He served as a volunteer for the City of Norfolk in various capacities for 38 years, the last 25 happiest years with Parks and Recreation at Lakewood Dance and Music Studio. He was a regular patron of the HRT buses and a familiar sight waiting at the bus stop in his blaze orange jacket; he liked to brag that he knew the Norfolk bus routes better than some of the drivers.

The family is grateful to all who were kind and embracing, helping to make Jimmy's life happy and complete. Special thanks are offered to the faithful friends at Moyock Baptist Church, his most recent neighbors at John Knox Towers, staff and residents at CSL at the Ballentine, the team of Traditions Hospice, and above all his beloved Lakewood family.

Burial service will be held at Moyock Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 4 at 2:00 p.m. with family visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Moyock Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Vic Ramsey is presiding.
