Joan Hughes Obituary
Virginia Beach - Joan Wynn Hughes died of natural causes on May 17, 2017 at the age of 81. Joan was born in Dublin, Ireland and immigrated with her husband Henry Adrian and two daughters to the United States. The Hughes family became citizens, settled in Richmond and added a son. Joan was a loving mother and grandmother, and an office manager for the family business. In 2001, she and her husband retired to Virginia Beach and moved in with their daughter Sandra. Joan took great comfort in her faith, enjoyed bingo, long walks at the beach, and a good dessert.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Sandra, her daughter Karen and husband Tim Bruce, her son Michael and wife Susan and their sons Elijah and Reilly. Also, surviving are her siblings in Dublin including Evelyn McArdle, Thomas Wynn, Clive Wynn and wife Marlene, and Carol Dunn.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.

I still have very good memories of our visit to Richmond and Virginia Beach in 1983.

Dear Sandra, Karen and Michael,
Your Mom was a sweet lady and a most generous host in her homes in Richmond, as well as in Virginia Beach. She always had something yummy for us to eat and great ideas to share. She was such a positive person and always made me feel welcome. Take care and know that I am thinking about you at this difficult time.

I'll miss monthly phone calls with Joan. She's been an inspiration to me with her positive attitude despite severe health issues. My son, Tim,couldn't have been luckier in having such a wonderful mother-in-law who's now enjoying a most deserved reward. Anne B.
