John Ellis Obituary

John L. Ellis
Virginia Beach - John Leigh Ellis, 84 of Virginia Beach, passed away on October 23, 2012. Born in Norfolk, VA to the late Alphonse and Ethel Thompson Ellis, John was a professional design engineer, a senior vice-president/ secretary treasurer of MMM Design Group prior to his retirement. He worked on a number of building and infrastructure projects in the U.S., Europe, and Africa. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
John is survived by his wife, Alta Ellis, daughter, Claudia Diane Ellis of Burbank, CA, a son, David Edward Ellis of Alexandria, VA, four grandchildren, Jacob Edward Ellis of VA, Julie Melinda Ellis, NY, NY, Olivia Anne Ellis of Great Falls, VA, and Nickolai Stanislav (Staas) Ellis of Burbank, CA. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Wayne Pierce of Virginia Beach, a goddaughter, Gray Dodson of Arrington, VA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Gladys Ethel Ellis, brother, Gray Ellis, sister, Beulah Ellis Schaefer and sister, Anne Pierce.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. The service will be officiated by Mr. William J. Dale. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
