Mark Kronenthal Obituary

Mark John Kronenthal, 74, died peacefully on Friday September 9, 2022 at his home in Kinsale, Virginia. Mark was born April 22, 1948 to Milan and Hedwig "Jean" Kronenthal in Akron, Ohio, the middle of three children. He graduated from Central High School in 1966.

Mark served with distinction as a Marine in the Vietnam War. In 1970, he began his lifetime career in the automotive industry first as a test driver for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Mark moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia with his young family in 1979 and founded Summit Switching, a spotting truck company that served the Norfolk Ford Assembly Plant until the plant closed in 2007. Apart from managing the company, Mark sought every opportunity to be around salt water with friends and family, and he enjoyed a quiet retirement in Virginia's river country.

Mark is survived by his wife, Jacquelin Stack; son Mark (Jeannie) Kronenthal of Richmond, Virginia; daughter Mary Beth (Marty) List of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandchildren Louise, George, and Frederick Kronenthal; sister Nancy Cleary; nephew Jeffery Lucas; niece Jeannie Hopkins; stepchildren Kelly (Paul Della Penna) Greene, Jimmy (Missy) Jones, and Meagan (Joseph) Graves; 8 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and many other loving cousins and relatives. Mark was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother Milan.

A memorial service will be held at the town commons at Bank Street and Yeocomico Lane in Kinsale on October 1, 2022 at 1:00 PM. A private family burial with military honors will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cople District Volunteer Fire Department or to Hospice of Virginia.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss... I really looked up to Mark when I was a young teen growing up in Akron. He actually taught me how to drive in the snow one winter before I officially got my driver's license. I never forgot driving his corvette in a snowy, icy parking lot one cold winter night. His kindness to a young kid in sharing his expertise served as an example for me in later years. He will be missed...

Blessings to your family in this time...
