Mark Swanson Obituary

Mark S. Swanson

Virginia Beach - Mark Stewart Swanson 51, son of Matthew C. and Eleanor J. Swanson of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on Friday, 20 June 2014. He leaves behind two brothers, Matthew C. Swanson Jr. and his wife Tracy of Supply, NC, and Luke Swanson of Virginia Beach; two nephews Christopher Swanson and his wife Katherine, their daughter Rachel Anne of Jacksonville, FL, and Caleb Swanson of Virginia Beach; and a niece Brandi Smith of Charlottesville, VA.

Mark graduated from Bayside High School in 1981. He was an ardent sailor and loved to cruise the coastal waters of the East Coast from Kittery, Maine, where he was born in 1963, to Florida. As a boy, he spent summers at the Connecticut shore with extended family and eventually came to enjoy the waters of Chesapeake Bay. Mark had recently moved to Virginia Beach from Williamsburg, VA and was currently employed at Norfolk Marine.

Memorial Services will be held at the Altmeyer Funeral Home 5792 Greenwich Rd., Virginia Beach on Thursday, 26 June at 3 pm. Friends may meet with the family following the service. The family wishes to thank EMS Virginia Beach for their rapid response as well as the Doctors and Nurses of the Cardiac Care Unit Virginia Beach General Hospital for the excellent care provided to Mark. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sentara Heart Fund 6015 Poplar Hall Drive, Suite 308 Norfolk VA 23502. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.altmeyer.com.

Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what's to be, A resting place along the road To sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, We all are meant to learn some things, But never meant to stay....Our destination is a place Far greater than we know. For some, the journey's quicker, For some, the journey's slow.... I will miss you my friend and I will miss your voice from our weekly talks. Your Sunshine from Guinea Neck, Rest in peace Mark.

Mark was a very hard worker. He kept the Safe Place Mini Storage Site in Williamsburg in a beautiful way. He was honored in 1999 with the Arbor Day Commendation Award and we were all very proud of his hard work and efforts. Rest in peace, Stu.
