Virginia Beach - Michael Smithson, 53 of Virginia Beach, VA passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2017. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Veronica Smithson of Venice, Florida, his daughter, Christina Smeal of Snyder, NE, his grandchildren, Hunter and Tatum also of Snyder, NE, his sister Regina Evans of Virginia Beach, VA and his brother Kevin Smithson of Andover, MA.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Rd Chapel on Sunday March 19, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (shop.stjude.org). Online condolences may be made to the family at hdoliver.com.

I am shocked and sadden to learn of Mike's passing. We were neighbor's through the 70's and his sister was best friend.

We were all very close and I have miss my relationship with the family for many years.

I'm short on words right now but he will forever be a part of my life's story and his silly Elvis impression's of the 70's.

Rest in Peace friend.

I think we were in the 9th grade at the time of this episode. Mike spent the night at my house. We snuck out and were just looking for a little mischief. We walked by a construction site as we walked through the neighborhood. In the yard was a porta potty. Mike and I lifted it up and carried it to the middle of the street. We didn't tip it over or anything, we just left it there. We walked away just chuckling to ourselves thinking how cool we were. I lost track of Mike after high school but think of that night often. I share this story with you hoping it will bring a smile to your faces. RIP Mike.
