S. Green Obituary

S. Archer Green VIRGINIA BEACH - S. Archer Green passed into that ocean of eternity June 24, 2011. He was born July 4, 1935, a date that forever made his birthday a day of great celebration. Photos taken by Archer, who started a life long hobby at age 8, form the nucleus of a large and wonderful pictorial history of the Green family and friends. The final passage was a long and arduous one but he "slipped over the final bar" pain free, at home, in his sleep, Amelia by his side. Norfolk bred, he was a proud basketball lettering graduate of Granby High School. He attended and lettered in tennis at Virginia Tech. Starting in business with his father, Sam Sr., Archer built Master Auto up to a 52-store chain. After the closure of this chapter of his life, he soldiered on with his usual bon homme aplomb and energy. He was a top sales agent in New Homes for a number of years. His love of sports never waned even as his disease robbed him of memory; a caring friend took Archer under his wing and extended his golfing fun an additional three precious years. Thank you, Don Meyers and friends. Archer's family wants everyone to celebrate his life and remember that handsome, athletic, dapper, bon vivant image forever. He is survived by his wife, Amelia Burrus Green; daughter, Perry Campbell; sons, S. Archer Green Jr. and Gregory B. Green; and granddaughters, Emmaling Campbell and Li Li Campbell, his "China Dolls." In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice or to cancer or Alzheimer's research foundations. A memorial service will be held at Eastern Shore Chapel at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 28.

Wonderful memories of this fun loving, always impeccably dressed, friend. The expierences we had over many years were like out of a novel. The parties Archer and Amelia had were ledgendary. Always something going on at the Green House. Lunch , dinner, sun , moon I was honered to be a part of his lifestyle. Always in my heart. Gail McNeil
