GALESBURG - Doris Anna Dennis, 84, of Galesburg, Ill., and formerly of Kewanee, died at 7:26 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg.
She was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Kewanee, the daughter of Leo E. and Olive M. (Briggs) Dennis.
Doris worked at the former Kewanee Works Walworth office, the Kewanee Star Courier, WKEI Radio and Kewanee School District 229, retiring in 1985. Following retirement she was employed for 13 years as a bus monitor for Laidlaw Bus Company in Galesburg, Ill.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kewanee for more than 40 years and sang in the choir. Doris is also remembered for having sung at many weddings and funerals in the Kewanee area.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Dale, Clifford, Howard and Lester Dennis; and two sisters, Verna Watson and Dorothy in infancy; and several nieces and nephews.
Surviving are her nephew, Joe Watson Jr.; and nieces, Luella Heise, Margaret Watson, June Hull, Loretta Mahaffey, Virginia Gilkerson, Ruth Rouse and Jeanne Groy; and caregiver, Carol Robertson; great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Ill. The Rev. K. Bruce Rushing of the First United Methodist Church of Kewanee will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the music department of her church.
