Betsy McClure Obituary

Betsy McClure
1/7/1928 - 11/10/2013
Betsy was born on January 7, 1928 in Torreon Mexico, and died on November 10, 2013 at her home in Roseville from cancer. As a child, Betsy lived in Mexico with her parents & her older sister Joan. She grew up in Mexico until the age of 14, when she went away to a boarding school in El Paso, Texas; this is why she was fluent in Spanish, which she loved speaking all of her life. After High School graduation, Betsy went to Arizona State University in Tucson, where she earned her BA. Upon completion of college she moved to Crescent City, Calif., to live with her parents; it was there that she met her husband, Les McClure. Les and Betsy were married in 1951; their first child was born in 1953. In 1955, Les and Betsy moved to Roseville Calif., so that Les could manage the Placer County Fair. In 1955 their second child was born and they met Dolly & David Fiddyment; Dolly became her lifelong friend. In 1961 Betsy began teaching in the Roseville City School District, where she taught for 28 years. In 1963 they completed their family with their third child. In 1968 Les & Betsy divorced.
Family was the most important thing to Betsy, as well as was the many close friendships she developed through the years. Betsy also loved animals, especially the many dogs she owned during her life. She spent many hours playing Bridge which was her favorite past time.
Betsy is survived by: her three children; Mark McClure, Beth McClure Thomas, & Mary Pexa. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Angelique Llanes, Danyelle deLemos, Bianca Wheeler, Mikala Henning, Zane, Ally, & Mira Pexa, Leah Thomas, and 9 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Betsy's honor on Monday, November 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Centerpoint Community Church in Roseville at 515 Sunrise Ave. Donations can be made to the Placer County SPCA. 150 Corporation Yard Rd., Roseville, CA 95678.

Betsy was my favorite teacher in Roseville, plus she was my best friend's mother. Beth and I would play at their house for days at a time and Betsy was always laughing at our antics. My favorite thing about her was her laugh and her positive attitude. She was always so fun and relaxed. She loved life and had a special gift for relating to children. I will really miss her.

My heart is with you, Mary, and family. I am so sorry for your loss. I have many memories of fun times with the McClure family as children--the Melrose house was always a welcoming home and Betsy was "Supermom" as she sometimes took our "gang" of girls to the Fiddyment cabin. I will fondly remember Betsy and her smile. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Our love and condolences to Mark and Beth and their families on Betsy's homegoing. I still have many fond memories of her when I had her as my fifth grade teacher, as well as seeing her over at Centerpoint in the later years. I loved her smile, as well as her warm and caring spirit.

My fondest memories of Betsy is her standing over the wood burning stove up at our cabin cooking up dozens of hand rolled tacos. Betsy and my dad would have a contest about who could eat the most tacos. I think they both had a hollow leg. The thing I will miss the most will be her laugh. Betsy truly loved life and all the many people that she called friends. Especially her bestie my mom Dolly. Most people only have one Mom, I was blessed with two. I will greatly miss you Betsy, but know I will see you on the other side. Love you
