Melinda Williams Capozza, 72, of Huntington, passed away July 5, 2022, at Parkview Huntington Hospital. She was born April 16, 1950, in Portland, the daughter of the late James Lawrence Williams (1914-85) and Juanita (Harmon) Williams (1916-86) of Portland.
Melinda attended Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, NY, as English major and minor in History. She married Frank C. Capozza (Tarrytown, NY), in 1978.
Melinda is preceded in death by her parents James and Juanita (Harmon) Williams, Frank C. Capozza (2000), and her two sisters, Susan (Lee) Todd, Dunkirk, and Catherine (Ray) Rhodenhamel, Churubusco. Melinda is survived by her daughter Sarah Capozza (Daniel Domsic), of Killeen, Texas, and her stepson Matthew (Tamera) Capozza, of Huntington. She had five grandchildren; Heather Bitzer Doyle, Blake (Abby) Bitzer, Chase Bitzer, Anthony Capozza, and Courtney Capozza; and four great-grandchildren, Camdyn Doyle, Tucker Bitzer, Brontly and Beckett Bitzer.
Nothing brought Melinda more happiness than quilt-making and antique collecting. She was a charter member of the Indiana State Quilters Guild. She was most recently employed at Those Two Quilt Lady's Fort Wayne; The Sewing Basket, Huntington; and Marsh Supermarket #73, Indianapolis. She was a quilt-maker, amateur historian, antique collector, feeder of birds, rescuer of stray cats and dogs, bibliophile, and insatiable reader. She enjoyed her family and was known as "Nana Mel" to her grandchildren and "Aunt Sissy" to her nieces and nephews. She also cherished lunch dates with friends at local favorite spots to grab pie and coffee.
To honor Melinda's request, she would love to have any donations or memorials made to Helping Paws Pet Haven, 2254 S. Marion Rd., Huntington, IN 46750. http://hpph.org/donations
