Alex Kramer Obituary

Alex John Kramer passed away in his sleep due to natural causes on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at the age of 84.

Born December 21st, 1939 in Aurora, Illinois to Roy and Francis Kramer (Astromskis) Alex grew up in Aurora attending Marmion Military Academy. Upon graduation from Marquette University and the University of Illinois, Chicago School of Dentistry, Alex served as commissioned Lieutenant in the Navy Dental Corps from 1964-1966.

Alex built a successful dental practice over the next 20 years in Montgomery, a time which included the birth of his two children, Ian and Elizabeth. In 1988, he relocated to Cornucopia, Wisconsin, and then again to Duluth, Minnesota in 1991. Alex retired to Punta Gorda, Florida in 2010 where he spent the remainder of his days.

Alex had many hobbies, including hunting, camping, downhill skiing, travel, and especially boating. He traveled with his family around the United States and often to Europe, with Germany and later Spain being personal favorites. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America as a scout and leader. One constant in his life was his love of the water.

In 1989 he purchased and sailed the 54-foot, three-masted wooden schooner Zeeto back from Boston to Cornucopia, making it a staple of the Apostle Islands and Bayfield peninsula for the last 30 years. Later on, he navigated the Alaskan Inland Passage from Seattle to Juneau by powerboat with his family and was an active member of the Punta Gorda Boat Club in Florida.

Alex is preceded by his parents, Roy and Francis Kramer, and his brother Fred Kramer, all of Aurora, Illinois. He is survived by his wife Brenda Kramer (Schillinger) of Punta Gorda, son Ian (Jennifer) of Memphis, daughter Elizabeth (Corey Garner) of Idaho, four grandchildren, Abigail and Michael Kramer, Cedar and Gemma Garner, two sisters Darlene Seelos (Tim) of Duluth and Deborah Stewart.

Alex always lived life to the fullest, with a larger-than-life personality and the ability to connect with anyone and everyone he met in all walks of life.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to celebrate Alex's life take time to appreciate life's little joys, and to reach out and extend kindness to a stranger.
