Sister M. Ivan S.S.C.M.

SISTER M. IVAN, S.S.C.M. Sister M. Ivan of the order of Sts. Cyril and Methodius passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Emmanuel Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. She was born Adeline Christoff on November 19, 1919 in Gary, IN, the daughter of Samuel and Mary (nee Sukel) Christoff. Sister Ivan attended Emerson, Froebel and Holy Trinity Schools and graduated from Froebel High School in Gary, IN. She attended Marywood University in Scranton, PA. and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics from Seton Hill College in Greensburg, PA. She interned in Dietetics at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a member of the American Dietetics Association. On February 2, 1949, she entered the Sisters of Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Danville, PA. and made her first profession August 9, 1951. She taught on the elementary level at St. Josephs in Toronto and at the secondary level at Sts. Cyrils Academy in Danville, PA. She spent 32 years in the dietary depts. of St. Cyrils Academy, Maria Josephs Manor in Danville, PA. and Villa St. Cyril in Highland Park, Illinois. For six years, she was a dietary consultant at Maria Hall in Danville, PA. Sister spent her retirement years at Emmanuel Center in Danville, PA. She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Benson and Mary Sierkowski; nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Maria Hall Chapel on Monday, January 17, 2005.
