Roy Van Zant "Ding" Estill

ROY VAN ZANT ESTILL "Ding" Valparaiso, IN Passed away at the age of 79 at Alterra/Clare Bridge Cottage in Valparaiso on Saturday, October 25, 2008, after battling Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Born in Shelby, IN, on October 12, 1929, to the late Arvil and Sadie Estill. A resident of Valparaiso for more than than 28 years, formerly of Lake Station and Gary. Roy was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and worked many years in the steel industry, retiring as a maintenance supervisor from M.S. Kaplan and Tube City. He was a member of the American Legion Post 485 in Schererville, IN, and Local 142 Teamsters Union. He was an avid fisherman and his greatest joy was being active in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Roy was loved & admired by his family, friends, and co-workers for his commitment to always men-toring and helping those who were in need. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Carol Ann Estill; four children, Penny (Greg) Sohovich, John (Linda) Estill, Jamie (Alice) Estill, and Donna Estill; nine grandchildren, Matthew (Jennifer) Estill, Carol Lee Estill, Holly (Billie) Dekock, Meghan Estill, Jon Estill, Lindsay Sohovich, Rachel Sohovich, PV2. Landen Krupchak, and Joshua Krupchak; six great-grandchildren, Matthew Estill, Madison Estill, Melanie Estill, Keely Dekock, Reid Estill, and soon-to-be, baby Jamie; good friend & "son," Joseph Milchak; two brothers: brother & best friend, John (Georgiann) Estill, and Jack (Joyce) Estill; three sisters, Betty (Don) Cox, Taddy (Chuck) Davis, Terri Deslauries; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the Dykes Funeral Home, with Richard Masson officiating. Interment, Memorial Park Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN. Friends may call on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Dykes Funeral Home, 2305 N. Campbell St., Valparaiso, IN. Our appreciation is extended to the Alterra/Clare Bridge Cottage and the VNA Hospice in Valparaiso for their kind and caring treatment of Roy during his final days.
