Emily Phillp Obituary
Emily Phillip, age 16 of Oshkosh, died Thursday December 20, 2012 at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee after a life long battle with congenital heart defects and pulmonary hypertension. She was born August 7, 1996 and despite her long-term illness lived her life on her own terms.
Emily's long-term illness didn't prevent her from living her life to its fullest, in fact it made her cherish and appreciate every moment. She was a junior at Oshkosh West High School, where despite her limited attendance she strived for academic excellence with the help of many dedicated and caring teachers. She participated as much as she could with Oshkosh West's Wood and Waters Club. Emily's passion was her art class which restored her soul.
Emily shared a passion with her Dad for the outdoors and hunting. Through special organizations and some wonderful people, Emily was able to experience successful pheasant, bear, deer and, her favorite, turkey hunting.
Emily's love of art and her desire to make other's lives enriched compelled her to begin making angels out of clay, each unique with her fingerprint. She began this venture with the help of her third grade art teacher with the hope to help other children. Since then Emily has sold these clay angels, auctioned them, and given them as mementos of appreciation. Through her efforts she has donated thousands of dollars to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and Make-A-Wish Foundation. Emily attended many events to talk about how these organizations changed her life. In her short 16 years, Emily managed to change more lives and touch more hearts than most adults do in their lifetime.
Survivors include her parents, Joel and Gweyn (Malloy) Phillip of Oshkosh; one amazing sister, Grace Phillip; paternal grandmother, Jeanne C. Phillip of Oshkosh; maternal grandparents, Ruth Holmquist of Oshkosh and Dean (Nancy) Malloy of Markesan. Emily is further survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and very close friends. She is preceded in death by her grandfather, John F. Phillip; her uncle, Andrew J. Phillip; and her aunt, Jenny A. Phillip.
A mass of Christian Burial will celebrated by Fr. Matt Simonar at St. Jude the Apostle Parish Sacred Heart Catholic Church (519 Knapp St.) on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. Family and friends may call at Konrad Behlman Funeral Home -Westside on Friday from 3 - 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for your choice to the organizations that truly helped Emily live her life: Make-A-Wish Foundation, Children's Hospital of WI - Herma Heart Center, Take 'Em Outdoors of Green Bay, United Special Sportsmen Alliance and My Team Triumph.

We feel honored that our daughter Alayna had Emily as her friend. We thank her family for inviting our daughter into their home and into their lives. Alayna's fondest memories with Emily include Deerfest and trap shooting at the Van Dyne

Although I didn't know Emily personally. I knew her work with Emily's Angels and would keep her and her family in my thoughts and prayers throughout the years. I had wanted to attend her recent benefit but was unable to make it. Her Love will live on through all that knew her or were touched by her caring and generous soul. I remember seeing Emily around school when I was a senior. I never got to know her personally but knew that every time I saw her she was in high spirits and smiles. I was Emily's advisor to West Woods and Waters Club. She was amazing. The passion that she had for the outdoors was incredible!!!I will never forget her. I first heard of Emily when I visited her grandmother Ruth at her office one day and heard of her situation and I thought " what a beautiful child." Then I got the pleasure of meeting Emily face to face at the Bike show at South Park in Oshkosh and realized just how beautiful Emily really was. It was awesome seeing how she lived her fragile life to the fullest. She was an inspiration to everyone she met. My heartfelt sympathy go out to Ruth and the rest of Emily's family. She was always an angel, now she has her wings. God has a special place for children and I think he needed Emily's help there. She will always be loved and missed. But thought of with admiration.

I remember Emily from when I taught at Roosevelt. The energy around her was amazing, and I will forever cherish the angel I have that was made by Emily which is hanging in my office window. She is now an angel looking down on all who loved her and who were blessed to have known her.

I had the pleasure to meet Emily when I worked at Woodward Radio during the Childrens Hospital Radiothons. During one of these times, I had the honor of purchasing one of her Angels, which hangs from my rear view mirror to this day.
Heaven received a "real" angel now.

We will all leave a legacy of some sort. Emily's legacy was already evident while she was here. Strength, courage, kindness, intelligence, beauty, grace. Those are words we can use to describe her. But her real impact is something words can't do justice to. It's something we feel in our hearts. Although hers was weak, she made ours stronger. We will miss her physical presence but we will never really be without her because of what she was...truly an angel on Earth.

There are no words that can take your pain away when you lose a child and I can only imagine the sorrow and empty
iness you all are feeling.Emily did have such an impact on those she met and her positive attitude was wonderful to see. If anyone had a right to be angry Emily did...but she chose to be a positive wonderful child that inspired many she touched in ways that only certain people can accomplish.
